“The most wonderful wedding you could wish for!!”
Reviewed 6 June 2011

From the moment we booked our wedding at the Grosvenor Hotel, the service and attention of Amy, the events manager, was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt so confident that everything was going to be perfect. The day exceeded all our expectations. The rooms were perfect, the wedding breakfast amazing and our evening reception was superb. The food was beautiful and the service from the hotel team was fantastic. We want to thank all at the Grosvenor Hotel for making our wedding the best day of our lives. xx

The hotel is very central and within walking distance to most of Stratford's visitor sites. Rooms located to the back of the hotel are better as they do not pick up the noise from the main road. Heating is turned off in rooms from beginning of May, so unless a heater is requested, some rooms are too cold, whilst others are too hot. The hotel would benefit from the installation of air conditioning in all rooms. Bath/shower taps are inadequate to control temperature and do not suit people with stiff finger joints. Staff are friendly, quality of food OK, but could be improved. Hotel has made cuts to basic service provisions, which is a shame. Otherwise, the experience was satisfactory.

Room Tip: Go for ofne at the rear of the hotel

Thanks for your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. It's important to remember that the building is 180 years old and offers a wide variety of room styles along with some original rooms at the front and modern wings at the back. The newer Executive rooms do have air conditioning, but with the warm weather recently, the main hotel heating is turned on/off on a daily basis as required. I am glad you found the staff friendly and look forward to your next stay with us.

The hotel was conveniently located for the 'Shakespeare experience'. The staff were friendly and welcoming, particularly Irina on reception. The breakfast & dinner food was good as was the service. The only drawback was that our bedroom was located (first floor) near the rear entrance to the hotel and outside patio area, and on the Saturday night, with the window open it was quite noisy. Otherwise our stay was enjoyable.

Thank you so much for your nice comments. We are very proud of our freshly prepared food and high quality of service, with members of staff like Irina being a real asset to the hotel. I am however sorry you were disturbed by other guests on the rear patio on Saturday night, but look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

We stayed twice in a period of 7 days.

First visit, Standard Double room very small and hot, we had the window open all the time we were there. On check-in we were offered an upgrade to a "Superior" room with aircon for an extra £15 per night, but decided that May in England should not need aircon. How wrong we were!

There is no lift, although bags will be carried to the room for you if you ask. The corridors are labyrinthine and very narrow and hot. There didn't seem to be any fresh air anywhere above ground floor level.

The wifi was a problem as it was very poor in the room - slow to load and kept dropping out. We were told we were in a part of the hotel where it didn't work well so tried the bar area but this wasn't much better. The Duty Manager agreed it was not working correctly, but it didn't get fixed during our 2-night stay.

We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night and were disappointed. - the sauce on my dish had congealed on the plate before it got to our table. We ate elsewhere the next night.

No room for two suitcases, really more like a single room with a double bed in it. The bed was comfortable and the bedroom and small bathroom were clean.

On our second visit a week later we were upgraded (without asking) to a "triple room". Not sure what this meant as it had a double bed and a normal 2-seater sofa under the window so could not have slept three. However, it was much larger that the Standard Double and had a decent size bathroom. This room was in a different wing and situated at the front of the hotel but was still very quiet as double-glazed. The wifi had obviously been fixed as it worked perfectly both in the room and in the public areas. Altogether a better experience. The upgrade may have been due to the fact that we had complained on our first visit, or maybe just good luck on our part.

Location of this hotel is great - a very short walk into town centre and to theatre.

Thank you for recent comments. I am sorry your first visit was not as good as the second a few days later, but it does show you that in such an old building we have a wide variety of room styles and indeed some are larger than others. Your second room was a family room and did contain a sofa bed allowing the room to accomodate 3 people but most rooms offer similar facilities inside, and I am glad the hotels free wifi service is now back up and running smoothly again after some faults recently. I hope you decide to stay again with us and that you will find the room and service to be upto the high standard we normally offer guests. Our Executive wing offers larger air conditioned rooms with many extra's and cost just £15 a night more, which also may be worth considering in the future. Thanks for your feedback as it helps to improve our service further.

Room was nice and was clean - bathroom was a bit on the "tired" side - expected a bit more for the money. However the staff were helpful, attentive and friendly and could not be faulted at all. Food was also excellent. Location ideal as close to centre but not so close that it was noisy at night. Not enough parking for size of hotel.
