“Debatable Service.. Otherwise Excellent!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2010

Rooms were boring (sadly, considering the character of building) and a bit small, breakfast was average, but the only serious drawback when "value for money" is taken into account was the service which could have been a bit more friendly (felt like staff were there as temps) and efficient.

Overall though, a pretty, quaint hotel, perfectly located and clean. Hard to beat for the price.

Stayed here on a Sunday night and paid £84.00 for a family room including Breakfast for Two adults and One child. The room we stayed in was to the rear of the Hotel so traffic noise was not a problem while we were there. Reading a few of the previous reviews we were a bit concerned, but we found that the Grosvenor was a great choice.

The room we stayed in was clean and tidy and the beds were very comfortable.I think the room must have had a recent make over as the carpet, curtains and beds looked new.The members of staff we encountered during our stay were always polite and helpfull.

The breakfast we had on the Monday morning could not be faulted and indeed the breakfast room it's self was immaculate. The waiting staff were attentive and polite and could not have been more helpfull. The selection of food on offer was plentyful and my cooked breakfast was delicious.

As others have said the location could not be better with a short walk to the town centre.

Although we had a great stay I can agree with some of the comments made by others.

1) The Car Park is on the small side
2) The main road passes right in front of the Hotel which could be a problem if you have a room at the front
3) The rooms could do with A/C
4) We stayed on a Sunday night for £84.00 with breakfast, if we had stayed on the Saturday night it would have cost £185.00 with breakfast

We arrived at the hotel to find that it was smack bang on the main road in and out of Stratford. From the picture I expected it to be stood back- not the case. We arrived early, fortunately, so managed to get a spot on the very pokey car park.

The girl behind reception was incredibly sullen and looked as though she would rather be anywhere else. She also could not understand why I was reading the document she gave me before I signed it. Tried to rush me. Most unpleasant. I read everything I am being asked to put my name to, I don't care where I am.

They put us in the room probably furethest away from the entrance. There is no lift. We were in one of only three rooms with an old brown door, which was awkward to open. The room was cramped at the end of a tiny corridor and the door literally touched another door to the next room.

The room was clean and neat but after our magical mystery tour to get to it we discovered we were at the front of the hotel meaning that the very frequent and rather loud traffic kept us awake half the night.

The bathroom was very dated but clean. However, there was a 'knack' to flushing the toilet. You had to push the handle at the very tip and hold it down. Very poor. Also, the shower had rather too small a nozel and wasn't altogether pleasant. Not the standard I would expect for £120 a night

The continental breakfast was alright but their selections of cheeses and meats (as they call it themselves) consists of 1 type of ham and 1 type of cheese. The following morning we went for the full English which was shocking (the price, if not already included in room rate, was £12.50). We got 1 cold sausage, 2 overcooked pieces of bacon, an egg, one solitary hash broad, a spoon full of beans and, on request, a spoonful of mushrooms. How do they make a profit???????????

The last evening we were there we decided to stay in and booked a table in the garden restaurant for that evenings meal. What they failed to mention was that the restaurant was closed due to a wedding reception and that we would be diverted to a pokey, cold living room kitted out with 7 or so tables.

The menu was confused at best- could not work out for itself if it wanted to be oriental or English. The starter was perfectly edible (duck pancakes for me, salmon for my husband). The main was also fine but on ordering his £17 steak my husband suddenly realised that unless he purchased sides he would literally get a steak and nothing else. The cost for his steak was over £20 with additions and the meal was certainly not at that standard. After eating at Lambs in the town the night before, paying around the same price, this was a very poor second.

After a final sleepless night we went home, pleased to be leaving. A shame, really, because the location of the hotel is fabulous. Within walking distance of just about everything.

Cramped room, narrow corridors, no lift, sultry staff, undercooked breakfast and a carprak with grossly inadequate capacity.

The hotel were excellent throughout and nothing was too much bother for Amy and her team. This began well before the event when we were discussing the rooms and needs for a successful training programme . They helped to get the right locations for the main training room, for additional space to run focus groups, and for space to hold social events in the evenings. They were tremendously helpful in finding equipment for us and also for arranging up front different styles of menu for the lunches to fit the changing needs of the programme day to day (including packed lunches and finger buffets in our room).

This level of service continued right through the event itself where nothing was too much bother for them - the service was truly excellent - which is easy to say, but to back it up I have been running training programmes around the UK, Europe and to a lesser extant other parts of the world for over 20 years and the service that we got from the hotel was right up there with the very best - and definitely the best that I have come across this year (which has included a nine-city Roadshow for another client).
