“Not good enough for a Holiday Inn.”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

The hotel is very well situated, near the Town shops and on the river. It is large. We checked in and found the room was old and worn with old style Holiday Inn furniture. It was clean but the corridors outside were not clean, had scratched paint, dust behind the doors, old carpets etc. I complained and was offered an "Executive" room at a cost of 25 pounds extra per day. Since I did not want to stay in the first room, I accepted. The second room was better, but still crummy and nowhere near as good as the standard Holiday Inns in the US. The corridor outside the new room was also not clean. I told the manager of my experiences, and told him that the hotel had a maintenance problem. The breakfast was OK but the atmosphere was busy and frantic with coach groups rushing to help themselves and get through breakfast. There was no porter on duty to help with heavy bags, either on arrival or departure, and the receptionist did it herself. One would expect that if they cannot afford a porter they would at least assign someone to be available when assistance is needed.

We went to Stratford-upon-Avon and booked into the Holiday Inn using some vouchers which gave us 3 rooms for the price of 2. When we tried to book in, we were told that they would not honour the vouchers, as the agent had made some mistake. After a not-so-pleasant experience at the counter, we finally retreated to our rooms, having to pay full price for all. The rooms were decent, although our bath plug didn't fit the hole, so as we had a bath, all the water slowly leaked out... After taking in a show in town, we went back to the hotel bar for a drink and snacks - the drinks order was wrong, and the cappucinos ordered by 2 members of our party finally arrived after nearly half an hour. The food, although it took an age to get to us, was at least very tasty. Breakfast the next morning started with over-stewed pot coffee, although we were able to ditch that after finding a coffee machine around the corner. The food on the service trays was not turned over quickly enough, and part of our party ended up with rock-hard fried eggs, and the rest with hardly-even cooked fried eggs! All in all, a decidedly underwhelming experience

This place is really good if you want somewhere close to the centre of Stratford (2 minutes walk) at a decent price. It has a lovely terrace overlooking the river where we sat in the sun on comfy sofas for a few hours enjoying the excellent bar service and view. Saturday evening's meal was wonderful. 3 courses for £25 - soup and/or cold platter, followed by carvery followed by desserts/cheese. We were able to eat as much as we wanted so really got our money's worth although disappointingly, the place was empty other than ourselves and one other couple. Such a shame when the restaurant was so large. Syaff were lovely and attentive both at the bar, in the restaurant and on reception. And the room? It was ok. Big bed and excellent power shower but the tv was rubbish. I would have expected at least a flat screen rather than the small old fashioned box they had. Maybe the executive rooms have better ones (and a better view!). All in all though, a very good stay and £5 for overnight parking that close to the centre is a bargain.

We stayed here for three nights over the August Bank Holiday to celebrate a birthday and requested two rooms next to each other for convenience,no problem, Booking in is from 3pm but we arrived at 1pm again no problem for the excellent staff at reception our rooms were ready,we found them to be of a good standard but if your expecting a riverside view you will be unlucky as most rooms overlook the car park.
Breakfast was included in our package and excellent it was, after being shown to your table and served tea or coffee you helped yourself to the hot and cold buffet which catered for all tastes. We never dined in the hotel apart from breakfast but enjoyed drinks on the riverside terrace,
Parking was £5 per night, you take a ticket when entering and have it validated at reception each time you leave so you do not pay till you check out when it's added to your bill.
We had a river cruise from outside the hotel and a Hop on Hop off bus tour and a trip to Warwick Castle all in all it was an excellent break and would not hesitate in recommending this Holiday Inn.

Just spent 3 nights at this hotel. You cant get a better spot for exploring Stratford as this hotel is literally a 2 minute walk away from the centre. Nice staff and hotel in general is nice and room rate is good. Only complaint is the really uncomfortable bed which was room 3065 so avoid this room if possible! Would return though.

Myself and partner have just spent 2 nights at this hotel in one of their executive rooms. It included little extras such as a mini fridge with a free bottle of water and carton of fruit juice each, a chair with pouffe, a dressing table and chair, an iron with board and a trouser press. With no stretch of the imagination could I class it as an 'executive ' room. It was tired looking, drab dated decor, old fashioned television set, a cheap shallow bed with inferior bedding, an old shower in a prehistoric bath and the cold tap in the sink would barely produce a trickle. Another little touch that was provided was a bath robe, however if you're size is anything other than average they are a waste of time as only 1 size is available- 1 size fits all I was told by a member of staff. One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was that it included a swimming pool, unfortunately it is not very big and for the main part is very shallow, great for kids but not adults wanting to swim and relax in. Anyway, moan over, on the plus side, the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were most welcome, the staff and service were commendable, the position of the hotel could not be better, being by the river and close to all the amenities, and yes despite my negativity regarding certain issues, I would probably stay here again.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 1105, as there has to be better than this in the 'executive' selection...
