“Good Hotel, Great Location”
Reviewed 8 September 2012

The holiday Inn's location is great, within a short walking distance of the center. The room is large, service is very good and the beds are comfortable. The typical English breakfast is nice. Good value for the price

We decided to have a short break in Stratford-On-Avon and chose the Holiday Inn because of it's close position to the town and all amenities and were certainly not disappointed in this respect.
However when checking in, firstly we were very annoyed that we were charged £5 a day as guests to park in the hotel. No mention of this on the site with which we booked and I think for any hotel to operate such a charge to guests who already spending several hundred pounds with them is somewhat of a liberty.
On reaching our room, we discovered that a) it was the size of a large cupboard, b) space for clothing for two people consisted of one wardrobe and NO drawer space c) the television was from the 1980's and showed only six channels and d) the bedding was stained and the pillow cases were creased and showed signs of recent use!! Not a particularly good first impression.
We complained to reception and a very pleasant and helpful young man, Dean, allocated us another room and assisted us to move our luggage.
I would however be interested to know why, when the hotel was not even full, were we given the first room when the alternative was so much more spacious and had enough space for us to put away our clothes. Surely policy would be to allocate the better rooms first?
I later heard from another member of staff that that room (2079) was probably the worst in the hotel!!
Whilst we were returning to the first room to collect our luggage the chambermaid was in the process of changing the bedding but insulted our intelligence by insisting that the fibre content of the pillow cases prevent them from looking crisp and clean!! I didn't bother to point out that I have stayed in hotels previously and I know clean bedding when I see it.
The other main gripe I had was that the breakfast at £14.75, although adequate was way overpriced. You can find alot cheaper in any of the pubs and restaurants that are within five minutes walk away.
As for the ancient television, I note from an earlier reply that plans are in store to replace these in 'the near future'. As flat-screen TVs have been around for about seven eight years, surely this is not before time for a so-called four star hotel.
On the plus side, I have to say that the rest of the staff were all helpful and polite and only too pleased to assist whenever possible.

Room Tip: Avoid 2079 like the plague and save money by not booking for breakfast

Nice hotel, bigger than I expected. Clean rooms, efficient service, nice breakfast. Well located in the middle of town. The pool and gym are a little on the small side, and the bed, although perfectly adequate, isn't sumptuously luxurious (however my daughter stole the best pillows).

The hotel is very well situated, near the Town shops and on the river. It is large. We checked in and found the room was old and worn with old style Holiday Inn furniture. It was clean but the corridors outside were not clean, had scratched paint, dust behind the doors, old carpets etc. I complained and was offered an "Executive" room at a cost of 25 pounds extra per day. Since I did not want to stay in the first room, I accepted. The second room was better, but still crummy and nowhere near as good as the standard Holiday Inns in the US. The corridor outside the new room was also not clean. I told the manager of my experiences, and told him that the hotel had a maintenance problem. The breakfast was OK but the atmosphere was busy and frantic with coach groups rushing to help themselves and get through breakfast. There was no porter on duty to help with heavy bags, either on arrival or departure, and the receptionist did it herself. One would expect that if they cannot afford a porter they would at least assign someone to be available when assistance is needed.

We went to Stratford-upon-Avon and booked into the Holiday Inn using some vouchers which gave us 3 rooms for the price of 2. When we tried to book in, we were told that they would not honour the vouchers, as the agent had made some mistake. After a not-so-pleasant experience at the counter, we finally retreated to our rooms, having to pay full price for all. The rooms were decent, although our bath plug didn't fit the hole, so as we had a bath, all the water slowly leaked out... After taking in a show in town, we went back to the hotel bar for a drink and snacks - the drinks order was wrong, and the cappucinos ordered by 2 members of our party finally arrived after nearly half an hour. The food, although it took an age to get to us, was at least very tasty. Breakfast the next morning started with over-stewed pot coffee, although we were able to ditch that after finding a coffee machine around the corner. The food on the service trays was not turned over quickly enough, and part of our party ended up with rock-hard fried eggs, and the rest with hardly-even cooked fried eggs! All in all, a decidedly underwhelming experience

This place is really good if you want somewhere close to the centre of Stratford (2 minutes walk) at a decent price. It has a lovely terrace overlooking the river where we sat in the sun on comfy sofas for a few hours enjoying the excellent bar service and view. Saturday evening's meal was wonderful. 3 courses for £25 - soup and/or cold platter, followed by carvery followed by desserts/cheese. We were able to eat as much as we wanted so really got our money's worth although disappointingly, the place was empty other than ourselves and one other couple. Such a shame when the restaurant was so large. Syaff were lovely and attentive both at the bar, in the restaurant and on reception. And the room? It was ok. Big bed and excellent power shower but the tv was rubbish. I would have expected at least a flat screen rather than the small old fashioned box they had. Maybe the executive rooms have better ones (and a better view!). All in all though, a very good stay and £5 for overnight parking that close to the centre is a bargain.

We stayed here for three nights over the August Bank Holiday to celebrate a birthday and requested two rooms next to each other for convenience,no problem, Booking in is from 3pm but we arrived at 1pm again no problem for the excellent staff at reception our rooms were ready,we found them to be of a good standard but if your expecting a riverside view you will be unlucky as most rooms overlook the car park.
Breakfast was included in our package and excellent it was, after being shown to your table and served tea or coffee you helped yourself to the hot and cold buffet which catered for all tastes. We never dined in the hotel apart from breakfast but enjoyed drinks on the riverside terrace,
Parking was £5 per night, you take a ticket when entering and have it validated at reception each time you leave so you do not pay till you check out when it's added to your bill.
We had a river cruise from outside the hotel and a Hop on Hop off bus tour and a trip to Warwick Castle all in all it was an excellent break and would not hesitate in recommending this Holiday Inn.
