We have stayed here several times and this is the first time we have had a bad word to say about the place. We arrived feeling weary and whereas we normally go out for lunch, after having checked into our room we decided to eat here for lunch.

Our room wasn't ready as we were early so we went to have lunch in the restaurant. However, having waited several minutes for someone to acknowledge us she came over and asked if we were in the group. We advised we weren't and then we were told the restaurant was only for the group - there appeared to be about 20 people sat dotted over the restaurant - and that we would have to order from the bar menu. We would have preferred room service, as that is a bigger menu but we knew the room wasn't ready. We didn't want to venture further so we went to the bar, the bar was extremely busy but we ordered food from there.

When our room was ready we settled down and relaxed, we love the room that we always have. However, at breakfast in the morning we went down again, breakfast we were told was 7:30am but when we went down at 7:31 lots of people were already seated and eating and some had already had breakfast. We walked over to wait to be seated and once again we were asked if we were with a group, when we were we were told were to sit. However, on both occasions we were made to feel inferior as we weren't part of a group. I have been there as part of a group and we ate our meals in other rooms, lunch and dinner but at breakfast we had no special treatment.

I did mention at check out that we were made to feel inferior as we weren't in a group and we were told their were lots of groups staying but that the feedback would be passed on. Not sure that it would though.

Travelling as a single on a group tour I was given a good sized air-conditioned room with Queen bed, (only a small cover though- just reached the edge of bed!) Tea making facilities and that was about it. Sparse bathroom supplies (note saying you can contact reception for more if required). No free wifi. 5 Pound for 60 mins, 15 pound for 24 hours. Needless to say I didn’t worry and waited for my next stop or on the bus which has free wifi.
The rooms allocated to our group required a very long walk from the elevators – if thinking of this hotel ask for a number ending around ‘60’ and you will be OK.
Breakfast was very good buffet of hot and cold, in a nice setting where you can see over the river.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to lift access, otherwise you are in for a long walk down corridors.

Poor First Impression from outside was quickly changed by walking inside, very high quality decor. The room was very comfortable and staff were really pollite, but the bar was very expensive (just like most hotels though) Breakfast was adequate, however i was refused by the chef when I requested an omlette " Im not doing those today" and would i like a fried egg flipped over?

Room Tip: Go for an exectutive room as the others looked a little worn out.

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. We were a party of six. 4 adults and 2 children of 9 and 11. Booked two rooms some weeks before and went for the pre-payment option which gives a good discount. One of the rooms was a 'family room' with a double bed and 2 bunk beds. The latter were in a separate small room. The other room was a standard twin room. The rooms were both very roomy indeed, so if you like a bit of space this is certainly ideal for you. All beds very comfortable so everyone slept very well.
The hotel is in an great location very near the town centre and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre
The first night we opted for a buffet dinner (25 pounds a head). The children ate for free, so excellent value! The food was OK except that the beef from the carvery somewhat dry. This may have been due to the fact that we went to dinner at 8pm and I suspect that it had been there from about 6pm when the restaurant opened. Having said that, the salmon fillets and the chicken were very good so that there was a reasonable choice. The second evening we opted for dinner in a restaurant in town where a good choice is available.

We have stayed at the hotel many times (including when it was a Moat House) but not in recent years. The first thing we noticed on our recent visit was a great upgrade of the lobby and other public areas. The rooms are pretty good too and everywhere was very clean. We did not use the restaurant for an evening meal, but room service was efficient, the menu was varied and the food was good. Breakfast was much better than on our previous visits.

The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the RSC and the town centre. We would certainly use it again for a short stay.

Our room was above the restaurant, and the fans were noisy at night. We commented on this at reception and our bill was adjusted - thanks!

We are also grateful that the housekeeping staff found an iPad lead we had left behind, and sent it on to us.

Room Tip: If you book an Executive Room, be prepared for a long trek through the hotel as most exec. room are at the end of the wings. If you don't need the extras, the standard rooms are fine.
