“Lazy birthday getaway”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

Arriving at The Stratford on a miserable damp Sunday evening and being greeted by a cheerful helpful receptionist made a good start to our few days away.
Our accommodation was roomy and comfortably equiped (fridge with milk, tea/coffee, sofa, bath-robes ...etc), bed was large & comfy and room had more storage space than we were ever going to need for a few days stay. Only downside - given the room (a Q*) thought the bathroom was small and cramped in size.
We opted to eat from the bar menu on our first night, like eating inhouse in most hotels this was a little pricey but the food was good and service quick. There had been a function the previous evening and the choice of bottle drinks available was restricted but for the bartender nothing was too much trouble and he managed to produce requested drinks from elsewhere. We only used the hotel restaurant for the buffet style breakfasts - which although offered a choice and hot food was replenished frequently it was a little disappointing in lack of variety especially if you are there for more than a couple of days. However the staff were polite, efficient and it was service with a smile.
As we found throughout our stay - all the staff were helpful & friendly - we asked about other places to eat in Stratford as one night was to be a birthday meal and we wanted somewhere special. We were not disappointed with suggestions - only advice book ahead if possible as most places are small and get full very quick.
The Stratford was our choice for this break as we wanted to be close to our destination and although arriving by car (there is parking on site) didn't want to have to use it during our break. This hotel didn't dissappoint as it was only a short walk to the centre and there was good access to shops, restaurants, tourist attractions ...etc without being in a noisy situation/location like others in the town centre.
The only thing missing was a pool for that lazy swim at the end of a day walking around town.
Overall an enjoyable break and would certainly have no hesitation in returning

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay, thank you for your kind comments with regards to the team. On your next visit our sister hotel does have a pool facility which is open for use to all of our guests.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Great room, great location and the best breakfast ever! We used the hotel as a base to expore Stratford and the surrounding area and it did the job perfectly. We like walking and walked to the theatre and other sites in Stratford which, if elderly, you may not be able to do. Easy parking also but an extra charge of £5 per day. Great value overall.

Room Tip: I am sure they are all great

A very well run hotel. This hotel has recently undergone a major refurbishment. The hotel and all the staff are lovely. The room was very comfortable with a TV, tea/coffee making facilities, a good sized bathroom. Breakfasts at the buffet self-service were constantly being replenished with a good choice.
We did not eat an evening meal there, purely because there was so much choice in town, which is within five minutes walking distance.
We would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Booked a night for a romantic break at the end of October, very nice looking hotel, lovely lobby area and was of a high standard. We arrived early at 12.30 and our room was ready which was excellent as we wanted to go out around Stratford. The room was tastefully decorated with the added bonus of a mini fridge and was very clean. I did think for the price of £116 it was on the small size we've had bigger rooms for the same or less price. I did also think the charge of £5 for parking was steep for residents as there is a barrier and you have to have your ticket validated by reception so I can't see why they have to charge especially as it isn't a cheap hotel, the Premier Inn only charge £1 so I can't see why QHotel can't. All in all it was a very pleasant stay but I do feel it's overpriced.

Thank you for your review and feedback. We do ensure that we regularly shop the competitor pricing for town centre and 4 star hotel car parking to ensure we remain competitive. I do however appreciate your feedback.

Have not heard of this chain before, but very impressed. Staff were very friendly, good location within 5 minute walk to the centre. Modern building/hotel, so if you were looking for old fashioned Shakespearean atmosphere then you should book elsewhere. Lovely modern interior. Our bedroom was of a good size and the furnishing/decor was great. I would like a copy of the bathroom at home! Stayed in the Waldorf in London after it had been refurbished and preferred this bathroom.
Shame booking website 'Hotels' soured the trip by charging us twice, even though their website said reservation system could not complete my two attempts at booking and no confirmation email sent by them - booked direct with hotel and ended up with three rooms. The Stratford were very nice about it considering it was not their fault and the overbooking had lost them two room sales! No response from 'Hotels' yet with a refund! Happy to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay with this chain again.

Stayed here mid-October on a 2-night package including dinner and breakfast. The hotel itself is of a good, reliable standard, as you would expect of the Q-hotel brand. Our 2nd floor corner room was spacious, comfortable, and everything in good working order including air conditioning. Personally I wouldn't place the TV on a high cabinet in front of the one small window thereby blocking what little light came through but as the view was only of the hospital car park next door I can see their thinking. The bathroom was modern and everything worked perfectly, comfy bed, too.

The hotel was busy this weekend, mostly, it seemed, with others on the 2-night DB&B package as the restaurant was full and we recognised the same faces on Saturday night as on Friday. Despite being on "terms", we could choose anything off the standard a la carte menu, with only a small supplement for a few dishes. We're not huge fans of hotel restaurants, preferring to find local restaurants wherever we visit (part of the experience of a break away), but we were impressed with the quality of food here. Not a huge menu but an imaginative selection and all dishes we had (3 courses both nights) were excellent. The breakfast buffet was pretty standard but again everything well cooked. We liked the huge pot of porridge, a welcome addition to the usual cereal range.

What really made our stay here was the excellent service we received from all staff, whether at reception, in the bar, or in the restaurant. They were friendly but also professional. Particular praise for "Adrian" the Polish bar tender. Can't be his real name but either way he was brilliant, remembering our regular order every time without prompting, even that my wife likes her Argentinian Malbec in a large glass (something about helping to get the full aroma, apparently).

Overall an excellent and enjoyable break made memorable by the excellent service. Well done, Q-hotels.
