“Perfect location and helpful staff”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

We stayed in The Swans Nest Macdonalds Hotel in January and had a great time. The staff were professional and helpful, the food was very good and our room was clean and very comfortable. We will certainly stay in this hotel again soon. The hotel is in a really good location so we could just walk everywhere and leave the car in the car park. We had a lovely relaxing break.

Either everyone was off poorly when we checked in, or the hotel is ridiculously under-staffed. When the man at reception appeared he was friendly and apologetic but clearly rushed off his feet.

When we finally got to our room it was clean and pleasant, however, the bathroom left a lot to be desired. It was very small and cluttered. With the towel rail being above the loo, the hand towel actually fell into the toilet the first time I washed my hands, which was annoying, especially since the soap is like washing your hands with bacon grease.

We tried calling reception from our room a few times, but nobody answered.

The location of the hotel however is wonderful. It's practically on the banks of the Avon, and being in Stratford, is surrounded by some excellent places to visit. It's in a quiet part of the town, which is excellent for a good nights sleep and nice for walking by the river at night.

Overall, if the bathrooms were larger and there was more than one person on the desk at any one time, I'd recommend this hotel, however, bad service is bad service no matter how you look at it.

Just stayed at The Swans Nest Macdonalds Hotel. My wife and I with two friends all retired. Weall found the hotel extremely clean superp location and staff very helpfull. The food was very good, and to be able to use the facilities of the Sister Hotel opposite was a real bonus. Swimming Pool , Gym , Sauna open from 7 in the morning. Many Thanks to Micheal on reception we found him to be very helpfull and always made us laugh.

We booked utilising £140 worth of Tesco vouchers and it still cost £160 - in Feb. If we'd paid full price it would have been a rip off, but looks like you can get rooms for around £100, and for that it is good value.
Corridors drab and architecture uninspiring, but does all the basics well:
Breakfast - nice buffet and cooked breakfast from kitchen, so not sat going manky.
Shower - awesome. Rooms look to have bee updated recently and showers are great.
Parking -it's £5 but that is for duration of stay and you are right into middle of Stratford.
Leisure - you have to walk across road but nice pool, sauna etc...

Having stayed in the sister hotel (Alveston Manor) only across the road, I was not expecting to be disappointed. But although the booking was for an executive suite, and room 66 does have a bedroom, "lounge" and bathroom, that was about all the positive points I can report.
The heating did not work unless you had the key card in so having checked in and gone for a stroll, when we got back, the room was cold. The shower was fine but turning the shower off was difficult as the "on" and "hot/cold" knob stuck together as one. The fact that there was only one ceiling light working didn't help problem solving the tap issue and I walked to friend in room 64 to borrow their bathroom mirror to see enough to make up! Even though the restaurant (not owned/part of the hotel) served nice enough food and were very helpful and efficient, and the wine was fair too, it was not enough to help me sleep through a continuous drone all night. It seems this executive room does not have double galzing and being on the first floor is level with the extractors and AC on the flat roof outside the windows. The room also got more cold as the heating did not work, even with the card key in place over night. I ended up placing the bed throw (with a sticky toffee decoration - a real one too!) on top of the duvet and the bath robe on top of that to gain some semblence of warmth.
Disappointingly, the reception team seemed unable to offer any words other than "oh!" when they asked if the stay had been satisfactory and they were quietly spoken to about the issues. They did not even suggest that they would fix the problems for the next occupants.
So, if you have to stay at the Swan's nest, do not pay extra for any executive rooms, before you get ready to go out check blubs and shower taps are working and ... take pyjamas!

For around the sixth time we have enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Swan's Nest when visiting Stratford for the theatre which is a short walk across the river from the hotel. Our upgraded room (free) was spacious, warm and comfortable. The long bath filled with hot water a delightful way to relax and was matched by the quality of the bed. Even being at the front, the noise level was minimal. As usual the breakfast was excellent - I had a kipper which melted in the mouth and my wife's cooked full English was freshly cooked and not kept hot on hot plates as is often the case. A recent change at Swan's Nest is the introduction of a parking fee. However the minimal charge of £5.00 per stay - not per night - has had a positive effect as those previously using as a free place to park during the day had disappeared leaving space for the residents!
We will be continuing to use Swan's Nest and will recommend it to friends.

A great weekend visit near to Valentines !! The room was comfortable and clean. The ease of using The Bear pub and Pierres Bistro attached to the hotel was fantastic !! Locals all used the pub and 7 real ales to choose from kept my husband very happy !! Just across the river into the town centre where we enjoyed the open top bus town sightseeing tour.
