“Handy for the theatre and comfortable, too”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

The staff here were very obliging and the rooms were warm and comfortable. We thought the decor was a bit old fashioned and there were signs of crumblng (window frames needed replacing). The shower room however looked fairly new and was very good. The parking was very good but you have to pay £5 per day (even if you're disabled, which one of our party was). The breakfast in Pierre's Bistro was only OK (rubbery scrambled eggs!)although the service was good - we thought £15 was a bit on the expensive side even for Stratford - you can get a voucher for a reduction to £9 but you'll need to ask.
No Wifi in rooms, although there was internet connection - no good for those of us with tablets.

We stayed at the Swans Nest Hotel for 2 nights in April using the Tesco voucher scheme. We did have some doubts, having never stayed anywhere using this scheme and after reading some negative comments about the hotel on Trip Adviser. However, we were more than happy with the room we were allocated. Whilst not the largest room we've ever stayed in, it was well laid out, appeared to be quite recently decorated and the carpet & furnishings all seemed new. The bathroom was modern & fresh and most importantly, clean. We overlooked a central garden which was nice and quiet during the night. I can only comment on the room we had - but would certainly not describe it as 'tired'. The only observation i made of any remedial works required was on the outside of the hotel - some of the windows appeared to be flaking and needed a lick of paint. I have to say this wasn't something that spoiled our stay. All the staff we came across were, without exception, welcoming and polite. The full English breakfast, which was included in out 'Tesco' deal was well cooked, well presented & more than enough to fuel us for a day exploring Stratford. The location, as other people have commented was right next to the river and a lovely 5 minute stroll into town. All in all, we couldn't fault the Swans Nest - especially as our final bill came to just £5.00 for the parking ! A thumbs up for the Tesco voucher scheme and the Swans Nest Hotel.

If you're in Stratford for the theatre, this hotel is very convenient with only a short walk to the theatre. The rooms are OK, clean but not large. Breakfast service can be slow. Some reservations on security as access from car park left open without security.

We returned to the Swan's nest after an absence of 3 or so years to find that prices have gone up considerably without any obvious extra for your money. On the contrary you now have to pay £5 to park in the hotel car park - blamed on non-residents trying to park for free. Good remedy surcharge your paying customers.

We were given a room above the bar - a nice room it is fair to say - but were given no warning that a very loud band would be playing there until after midnight. A complaint the following morning got a perfunctory apology.

It will be much more than 3 years before we contemplate returning.

Spent three nights at the Swans Nest. Good value for the price we paid. The hotel is in the heart of the town - only five minutes walk across a footbridge. Our room was clean and spacious with tea and coffee facilities. We didn't eat in the hotel as there are lots of good restaurants in Stratford. Breakfast can be had at the local Marks and Spencers or BHS. We did have a drink in the bar and, as a fan of real ale, I was impressed by the range of ales available (seven at the time of our visit). The only slight criticism is that the corridors are rather 'dark' although I do appreciate the need to conserve energy and it certainly wouldn't put us off staying again. Staff are very friendly and efficient.
There is a charge for car-parking but nott too bad at £5 for the duration of your stay. Guests do have access to the leisure facilities of the 'sister hotel' opposite.

Nests provide a homey, cosy feeling. If you expect this from a hotel bearing a Nest name, you might be disappointed. Instead, you'll find a perfectly located andcomfortable place to stay, with a clean, well-spaced and efficiently laid-out room (such was ours, on the ground floor). You're a stone's throw away from the theatres and the town (just cross the river) and get easy parking. Breakfast buffets were efficient and fairly well provided, and you can pay extra for a cooked version.
Still, we missed real warmth and caring by the staff.
You do not expect reception staff to call out "do you need any help" from behind a desk if you stand at their counter, obviously waiting for attendance on check in. At least it put us off asking for a room card that worked better than the ones we got.
You do not expect drilling and hammering in a nearby room at 8 a.m. in a hotel. The layout of the place with its long corridors and several apparently unguarded (open all night? They were unlocked at 11 p.m.) entrances does not contribute to a feeling of comfort and safety.
Overall: a stay at htis unforgettable location might have been that much more enjoyable if we had experienced a little more warmth (which we did get in Stratford on earlier visits and at dinner in the RSC Rooftop Restaurant and at the Shakespeare Hotel).

Stayed here in march overnight as a birthday treat. Great location, a short walk to town centre.
Rooms clean but basic, and in need of updating, paint chipped and peeling on bathroom door, window frames had hardly any paint left on them and in need of repair. However nice view over the garden!
The room in which breakfast was served was small and cramped, several tables squashed together, one waitress to serve all, breakfast was the usual full english acceptable but nothing special. Have stayed at the sister hotel over the road before Alvaston Manor and this sadly does not compare favourably.
Wouldnt stay here again.
