Friendly staff clean large room . Only one radiator worked but as it was not too cold was not a problem could be later on. Would not pay for breakfast a short stroll from hotel plenty of places for much cheaper breakfast

Just returned back from the Swans Nest and thought i would have to comment straight away... Very very nice hotel, superb helpful staff, great location... Enjoyed a wonderful breakfast on the Saturday morning.... and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Bear bar whilst watching the rugby on Saturday afternoon... would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice relaxing 'no fuss' break....

6 of us (3 couples) stayed overnight whilst attending an RSC theatre evening performance. Cost per room on B & B basis was £100. For this I expect a decent hotel not what we got.
Room problems.
1 No hot water in wash basin.
2 Very noisy fan in bathroom
3 Room cold when we arrived mid afternoon. Aparently heating is centrally controlled on a 2 hour on-2 hour off system !
4 When heating did come on only one radiator worked.
5 Remote control for TV not working at all.
Other problems
6 After returning from theatre (about 10.30pm) we got drinks from the bar & as that was crowded we sat on sofas round a coal effect gas fire in the hotel lounge. At 11.00pm the fire suddenly went out !!
7 Just before the above happened we had asked for another round of drinks & were told the bar was shut & reception could not access it but were offered drinks from reception's mini fridge. Only bottles of Cobra beer were available !!!!
This is not a 4 star hotel.

Really nice hotel, great location but breakfast at £19.95 is ridiculous! The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. Staff are helpful and friendly. Nice to have a fridge in the room and a lovely bottle of cold water, ironing board and iron supplied, and a good hairdryer for a change.
Would definelty stay again,

Few days away to stratford-upon-avon which is a lovely and interesting place to visit. Stayed at the swans nest, brilliant location by the river and the town, friendly people, several good art galleries, resturants and pubs not to mention places of interest. The swans nest has a large reception lounge with free tea and coffee in the afternoons, greatly appreciated as we were there halloween week and it was cold, there was also a lovely resturant and bar. Our room was realy comfortable, clean and homely, looking out over the garden. The room was made up, cleaned and tea tray refilled every day. All of the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, there was a very happy and relaxed atmosphere, it was perfect and i would recomend a stay here and i would love to stay again in the future. Must also mention a tiny theatre, sorry dont know its name, by the river, where we saw a production of frankenstien, it was fantastic acting loved it, loved it.

Stayed just a couple of nights for an anniversary break. The welcome we recieved was warm and friendly. When I requested a room change ,due to personal preference, nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean ,spacious and had plenty of facilties, fridge, hairdryer, tea making facilities but no coffee. The bathroom was clean but could have done with updating ,regrouting !. The shower did not work properly and the screen was too small and the seals worn so consequently the bathroom floor was flooded after every use. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, new mattress needed ,but the feather pillows were a lovely luxury. The full English breakfast was small and the spicy sausage far too overpowering for a breakfast dish [personal choice ] but the buffet had plenty of choices and was well stocked .
The bar was a lovely cosy place to have a drink and chat .
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and could not do enough for you.The morning staff in the dining room were always very busy and worked exceptionally hard to please everyone, they were all very pleasant and friendly.Special mention to Kim and Jordan who were so lovely and chatty and made you feel very welcome and comfortable. Overall pleasant stay and use of spa facilities at Alvaston Manor was a great bonus which helped to make the stay more enjoyable .

Stayed for a social weekend with friends (21 of us), all of whom spend a lot of time in hotels and have realistic expectations of them - unlike some others who have posted reviews recently I suggest. We experienced pleasant and efficient service at check-in and check-out and especially for dinner in a private room on Saturday evening, when the food was excellent for the price. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and £5 per stay for parking seems very reasonable given the location. Food service at Saturday lunchtime in the Bear was a bit slow, but it was a very busy time and the range of real ales was most welcome. This is not an 'olde worlde' hotel, nor are the large extensions particularly attractive, but the guest experience is just fine. I would certainly stay here again.
