“Great location and staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2013

My wife and I spent three nights here. The hotel overlooks the Avon River and is a short walk across the river to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The hotel is withing walking distance of the sights you want to see in Stratford. The hotel is nicely decorated, the rooms are very comfortable, especially the beds. The bath is adequate and the buffet breakfast provides a wide variety of choices served with a helpful staff. The front desk is very helpful in arranging reservations and giving directions. We would stay here again.

I recently stayed at the hotel with my partner and her parents, £153 I will never get back. Upon arrival we were left waiting for our key for 25 minutes( I could understand if we were checking in early but we didn't actually arrive until 6 pm) , we rushed to our room ( number 5) and were greeted with dirty foot marks on the wall and two single beds that were pushed together, we were informed it would be two singles but were not told you cold not lock the wheels so everytime time you moved to the centre you fall down a gap in the middle. Again as I said we arrived late and had a table booked at te encore ( which was faultless I'd like to add) so my partner wanted a quick shower , she got in and only cold water, ran te taps for a while but still only cold water. She rang down to reception and spoke to the receptionist Artur, who said " oh ok well I will turn te hot water on for you now" it's a joke that these simple things were not as a norm, a travel lodge would seem like the savoy compared to this place. We went out and enjoyed our night and came back to the hotel at about 11 the bear's bar had closed ( at 11 on a Saturday ) so we thought we will have a coffee ten go to bed, we went to the small bar on reception and asked for our drinks, the receptionst sighed and said he had just turned off the coffee machine and hinted at us just having a coffee in our rooms ( another dose of the excellent service from this place ) so we went to our separate rooms and while my partner had a wash before bed I thought ill catch the end if match of the day on th tv in our room, unfortunately the only channel available was E4+1 so I retuned the whole tv. When we woke in the morning there were no seats available for breakfast ( not just for the four of us, there were also another 3 couples waiting) when we were seated the coffee had run out, no replacement orange juice and one of the waiters said to his colleague that to try and get customers to have croissants instead of toast as te kitchen had caught fire on the grill, we got up and left to check out and were in a que of no fewer than 8 other residents all complaining about their breakfasts and swans nest experience. I would need stay there again, we have put in a formal complaint and are hoping for a refund because if the compensation is a free night in this hotel it will not e used. Horrible place to stay that lacks management ( the only supervisor we saw was someone called Jayne in the morning and she was clearly very hungover). This review is not dramatic , the place is horrible an I urge you not to say there

I booked this hotel recently on an autumn deal for a theatre trip to see David Tennant at the RSC. The hotel is very warm and cosy, great central location, only 10 minute walk from the theatre and all the shops, breakfast was very good and all the staff were very friendly. Our room was very nice, overall very impressed with the hotel. I would definitely book the hotel again when I next stay in Stratford, am not sure why people on here are making petty complaints about minor things!

Booked this hotel in March for one night room only to coincide with seeing David Tennant at the RSC and booked another night last week at almost £30 cheaper with breakfast and a £10 voucher included!
The room we were given had just been painted, in fact the window sill was still tacky and the room smelled of paint. I did go back and ask if that was ok and the guy on reception was quite uninterested .......'if we were happy you can stay there' was the impression I got.
We were unable to use the in room safe as the batteries had been removed and I couldn't be bothered to go back and complain.
Also my daughter made the first trip to the bathroom and said the toilet hadn't been flushed! I didn't check!
Negatives aside, the room was clean, I was very pleased to get 3 days parking for £5 and of course it is very close to the RSC ..........just across the footbridge .......we could actually see it through our bedroom window.
I would stay there again.

We stayed here as part of a 4 day road trip around the country. It was very easy to book online and we used the autumn offer as we were staying mid-week. Stratford is a beautiful place and this hotel is just on the water front and while there is the inevitable extension for extra rooms this was relatively hidden and so did not affect the initial impression too much.

I like that the rooms were given names (as well as numbers) which was a quaint twist. The rooms themselves were clean, nicely presented and included everything you would expect from this quality of a hotel especially at the cost we paid. We even had a little lounge area which was a nice surprise. We didn’t have dinner in the hotel but the breakfast in the bistro was really good, there was a wide selection of buffet items or the chefs were on hand to make a range of hot breakfast items, full English, pancakes etc. We also had a drink in the hotel bar the night of our stay which was good, a nice selection of whiskeys, ales etc.

The only thing which was disappointing was on arrival we were ignored by the seemingly un-busy reception staff and had to wait for 10 minutes until they had completed what they were doing to acknowledge us and come over to check us in. The reception member was courteous and apologised for keeping us waiting but 10 minutes is at least 9 minutes too long.

Overall a good hotel in a perfect location to explore Stratford.

Dear guest

Booked this as last minute thing for show at RSC .... Good price and great location, Walking distance from the theatre and the restaurants.

Check in was lethargic, with receptionist determined to go through his full patter even though I didn't want breakfast of the restaurant ... Ok he's only doing his job... But long queue of people ...

Really cheesed off with the £5 to park , and as we had travelled seperatly this cost us £10....kind expect to have parking included in the cost...the carpark itself is tucked away at the back of the hotel...and has no lighting... Ladies beware !!! There are public car parks that are better lit

Would hotel consider installing lighting!!!!

The hotel itself is clean, being updated and has comfy well maintained rooms... But it is a little confusing to navigate and signage ... Again to carpark could be better.

Not a bad hotel .... Just could be better with a few simple touches!

My daughter made this reservation for two standard rooms for three nights, after reading some of the Trip Advisor reviews, was a bit apprehensive. We need not have been concerned, yes room was not large but was in good condition and clean. Compact bathroom with a good shower. Food in both the restaurant and pub were good as was the service. The Bear pub which is accessed from the reception area ( in fact there is a side bar in this area, where there are some comfortable chairs ) can get quite busy as seems a popular watering hole. At least six cask ales on hand pump including their own - Bear Beer at 3.6% and £2.95 a pint !! I had a pint each evening and every time was excellent.
Location is perfect and while we had no parking problems, can understand this might be a problem at busy times IE a Saturday afternoon or evening.
Value for money we were well pleased and would probably rebook here when we return to Stratford next year.

Room Tip: Maybe, upgrade to an executive room if you want a bit more space.
