Wonderful value (advance booking) of a "junior suite". We advise you register with the Accor Group itself for best prices.

Clean, comfortable and furnished with a high 4 poster bed. We are tall ( me 6' 2" ) and it was long enough.
Free toiletries, kettle+sachet drinks, robes and slippers. Lots of hot water in en-suite facility with a bath/shower. It was a joy to enjoy a relaxing bath again unlike other chain hotel shower cubicles.
Excellent TV with adequate Mercure limited channels. Not the full UK Freeview
choices yet.
Wifi free ONLY in public areas on ground floor. Room connection available.

Garrick Room breakfast was at £15.50 too much. Tempting and copious menu, but we ate nearby for much less.
We checked out well before 1200, but enjoyed a leisurely morning.
We met cheerful housekeeping staff too and enjoyed excellent service at reception.

This is a lovely historical place with integrated annex accommodation. Floors creak a little because they retain some older structural fabric, but the elevators ( OK, you know we call them lifts) are modern.

We also dined elsewhere not at the Othello Restaurant annex.

Parking is limited. Entry is by barrier in Sheep Street just around the block/corner from the reception entrance. You exit by code given when you check out. Only £10 fee per day's stay which compares with the nearby NCP for 24 hours.

In the main we loved it, but no presence of the manager during our stay to raise the hospitality level, Marnix!

Room Tip: Book a suite in advance after your RSC tickets.

Olde world hotel in the centre of Stratford. Staff were pleasant and room was clean but shower faulty. Room was at the end of numerous stairs and corridors which made access with 3 suitcases difficult and no porterage offered. Room renovations being carried out but not advised at time off booking although not a big issue. Breakfast good, parking limited and street noise as room faced main street.

Room Tip: Request room not overlooking main street.

I loved this hotel, the beauty of it just added to the experience of Stratford upon Avon. Excellent location right in the centre of town and amidst all the Shakespeare history and attractions. Big comfy bed, and lovely hotel staff (with the exception of on e girl at reception). The room wasn't exactly large but being such an old hotel it can hardly be expected to be. It was clean well maintained and simply stunning.

For the money we paid for this long weekend, it really wasn't worth the money. The room was small, you have to request the mini bar is stocked and we had no hot water and the shower wasn't working for 2 mornings in a row. We complained to the management and we received some small compensation for the inconvenience. I was talking to a lady at Anne Hathaway's cottage who's boyfriend used to work there and she said they had been having problems with the hot water for quite some time - you would expect better from a Mercure hotel.
The breakfast was mediocre and staff served you so you were limited on portion sizes. I ordered a bottle of white wine from the wine list. First, the waiter brought the wrong bottle. Then I complained. He brought the ordered white wine which was not chilled. He told me to wait for 10 minutes to chill the white wine.
NOT good value and not welcoming compared to other places we have stayed.

Dear Guest,

First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review on Tripadvisor.

It is always very helpful to receive constructive feedback which helps us to improve our service levels and re-focus our efforts to enhance the guest experience.

The water issue should have been resolved as a specialised company, Water Heating Services Ltd, has been called in and we are currently monitoring the situation. We have not received any comments since this company has re-arranged the connecting to our new water pump.

Please accept my apologies for the he poor service you recieved in the restaurant. I have forwarded your comments to our Restaurant Manager.

We appreciate your feedback, and I hope that you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back to the Mercure Shakespeare Hotel and provide you with a genuine hassle-free experience.

Kind regards,

This is a beautiful hotel, but some aspects of the stay were let down by the following. On arrival at our room we found that the toilet had not been cleaned and had very obviously been used! The cistern was making a very loud noise. We went back to reception to ask for another room and were told that the water was off due to maintenance, we were given another room. The new room was on a floor where a party of school children were staying, these children thought it great fun to play games in the corridor outside and bang on the doors and run away, we weren't amused as this was supposed to be a relaxing weekend! We left the hotel for dinner and when we came back we went into the Quill bar, this is in my opinion the best area, lots of atmpsphere and lovely furnishings,we spent a couple of hours here having after dinner drinks. Our morning was very rudely interrupted once again at approx 7am by said children, (not a teacher in sight!) so we decided to go down to breakfast. Greeted by very enthusiasic staff but hot buffet was cold, staff couldn't wait to clear our plates, a very rushed affair. Returned to our room for a nice hot shower, would have been great if only the water hadn't been turned of in the middle of it! To crown it all we had to pay £10 for the parking. This is not a 4 star hotel but could be if only they paid attention to the details.

stayed for one night had a room at the back so was quiet but dark as there is a massive tree at the back of the hotel which i rekon would effect most of the back rooms didnt bother me as we dont stay in the room only to sleep. great old feel to the hotel with that great open fire smell when you walk in and very creeky floor boards (which is very annoying at 6am in the room above!! but ear plugs would solve that) room was a good size nothing fancy but great at the internet price i payed had it been full price i may say different! id have a room on the top floor next time to solve being woke up with the floorboards creeking loudly above..staff were very friendly and breakfast was good (self serve would be much better) car park was good tucket round the back worth £10 to have it safe overall a nice old hotel to stay in and location great

Room Tip: have a room on the top floor
