Having made zero decision on where to stay, literally stumbled across what is now i consider a gem of a hotel. Great location, lovely building with a VERY interesting history, comes with resident ......

The location is perfect for those long weekends, walking distance from all the sites and from all the restaurants.

The room itself was lovely had great charachter, even the doors are named. You get a nice comfortable bed and all the needed faciliites.

I would have no issue staying here again recommend

By fluke we were lucky enough to stay in this hotel on the weekend of the celebrations of Shakespeare's 450th birthday!
We were 9 women on a friends away weekend.
From signing in to signing out we were so well treated, the staff were second to none.
I feel we would all like to give special thanks to Vincent, Bryan and Ashley who looked after us.

The hotel is right in the centre of Stratford and 5 minutes walk to the theatre, river and shops.
There was parking around the back of the hotel, we were fortunate enough to get spaces but it was only for 30 cars, if unlucky to get one here there is a car park round the corner a few minutes walk away.

We all had rooms on the original side of the hotel and were all very pleased (5 rooms)
Some bigger than others they all had an old worldly feel with big wooden doors and some beams, creaky floorboards added to the atmosphere!

We had b&b and evening meal both days/nights
The food was excellent, breakfasts fresh and hot food, great 3 course evening meal and we had a wine allowance on a deal which was great.
The only course some of us faulted was the fish cakes!, this came in a Thai soup which it didn't state on the menu and turned into a Thai slop, but seriously everything else was top class.

Everything we needed was catered for, we even took our own cakes in one afternoon and the waiter got us some plates and napkins even though we bought the cakes outside.
The hotel was that good we stayed there both nights and the staff made us an area just for us 9 bringing sofas over and making sure we were all ok!

Full praise goes to this excellent hotel and attentive staff and great atmosphere
Excellent location, made even more special by all the festivities passing the hotel of celebrations all weekend
Highly recommend will be returning 100%
Thankyou the Shakespeare xx

Room Tip: I would ask for garden view

This hotel was outstanding in every way! I told them it was my girlfriends birthday on our check in day so asked for the best room they had on that date. We were both so impressed by our free upgrade to a privilege suite. A genuinely lovely gesture. Our room overlooked the gardens, had a bath and nespresso machine as well as a 39 inch TV, fridge with free soft drinks and trouser press! The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was beautifully kept with all the character you could ask for. It took us about 5 minutes to walk to the theatre and about 10 minutes to walk to the hotel from the train station. Thank you Mercure Stratford, you were perfect!

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel which overlooked the gardens and was very quiet.

No more than a tree minute walk to the Royal Shakespeare Company, Restaurants and other delights. Friendly and helpful staff and well appointed rooms. Creaky old corridors and a really other century feel.

A beautiful hotel with a long interesting history and a very unique character.

You can't go wrong staying here. One member of staff did annoy me with his attitude (I'm not normally seen as a guest, more 'working with the hotel') but everyone has bad days.

The location is excellent and if you can get a room on the newer wing the rooms are huge.

One of my favourite hotels.

One night stop over for midweek leisure break combined with a play at the RSC.
This hotel is perfect if you want to be part of the "olde worlde" - timber framed - Shakespeare experience. Although part of the Mercure chain you don't get overwhelmed by the branding.
Service throughout was good (as you would expect of 4*). All staff were friendly and attentive without being overboard. Lots of cosy lounges plus the restaurant are in the timber framed part of the hotel and really look and feel the part. We ate in the hotel and then sat in one of the lounges for coffee. Perfect.
Only criticism was the starter of our meal which was fishcakes and really quite awful. But the rest of the meal was excellent so may be we were just unluck. Like many hotel restaurants it lacked a little in the way of atmosphere as it was only mediumly busy. But this would probably be no different in many restaurants at this time of year (April)
Our room was in the new block at the rear of the hotel but the overall design of the room and the common parts is quite clever so you don't in the least bit feel you are in some second rate annex. Although fairly small the room was nicely decorated in reasonably modern style with good sized bathroom.
Car park is very convenient and we found a space without a problem. The £10 per day charge seems very fair to me.
Overall our stay was quite good value for what you got. Would definitely recommend and stay again
