We held a surprise party at the Shakepeare in May and were absolutely delighted with their organisation. Everything that we asked to be done was done with crisp efficiency and other things were provided, such as personalised menus, which we hadn't asked for. The events manager was always present but inconspicuous and swept in like a gentle breeze when anything was needed. The food served was excellent and we were allocated different rooms for each stage of the evening which enhanced conviviality. We were also very impressed with breakfast and the staff who served it who worked extremely hard to meet everyone's demands. The experience certainly changed our view of the hotel which seems to have improved significantly in recent years. My only complaint is that there is a hefty parking charge, which is off-putting.

Loved the location and general look of this hotel. Rooms not wonderful, but then it is not overly expensive - so value for money factor OK, just don't expect luxury. First room we were shown to was nicely furnished and air conditioned (it was hot in July when we stayed) - hwever, the room overlooked the internal aircon units of the hotel, so very noisy. We asked to move and were offered a room in the annex at the back - not as nicely furnished (bland, but OK) but quieter. Unfortunately no air con (fan provided, but room still very hot) or lift in the annex and even though the hotel offered to bring our bags up (along with some fresh milk) they forget for several hours, leaving our bags in the middle of the hotel unattended. We eventually got sick of waiting and went & got them ourselves as we wanted to go out - the hotel was not even aware we had done this! Also take note that the free wifi is only in the bar area (which looks closed in the mornings, but you can still go through to access wifi). All in all it was OK for the price (we paid GBP99 per night, pre paid for a 2 night stay deal - not cancellable- including breakfast in a twin room), and I would stay again. Just make sure you do get a good deal and dont expect 5 star hotel facilities or service - just enjoy the look of the place & great location!

After reading some of the negative reviews about this hotel I felt compelled to write my own. I stayed for two nights with my teenage son. Our room was delightful, on the third floor in the eaves. Yes it was small but had been newly decorated with the addition of a new TV! The bathroom could have done with updating and was not to a 4 star standard but everything was spotlessly clean. We had several meals at the hotel which we enjoyed but with the fantastic location, right in the hub of things, there was plenty of choice for dining out.
I have to also comment on the professionalism of the staff - they were knowledgeable, attentive and were eager to please. My son and I felt very much at home during our stay and due to the close proximity of the hotel to most of the attractions were able to fit alot into our stay.
My only gripe would be the cost of the parking - £10 per night was a little steep when you are a resident.
However we would like to thank the staff of the hotel for a wonderful couple of days and we would certainly stay there again.

This is a 15th century hotel tastefully updated. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We would definitely stay there again . It is within walking distance of both Royal Shakespeare Theaters. And, around the corner is Lambs, a first rate restaurant.

The Shakespeare Hotel is a really nice hotel, i cant understand bad past reviews. but like most bad reviews on here some sad lonely people are never happy. The hotel is by far the best placed hotel in stratford, smack bang in the middle of the town, bars and restaurants. Upon entering reception its quirky, with a posh old style feeling to it. Past reviews mention this being a negative but if you'd have did your homework then you would see that it tells you this on their website....for people who want boring then go stay in a travel lodge! my room was really nice, it mixed the old with the new and even had 2 rooms with 2 tv's (i paid for the lowest standard rate room) only negative thing i can say is that the shower wasnt worth using it was a drip. so i just got baths which was fine. so, if you fancy a hotel thats a bit different, bit quirky with hallways that look like their straight out of a haunted ghost film set lol then stay here :)

If you want a modern newly built hotel , then pass this by....
If you want, a building that is full of character, with a unique style, serving a fantastic breakfast, then this is it...
Due to the age of it, the bedroom doors have keys , not key cards..real keys...well the one we where is did...also each named after a character of Bill The Quill...
This hotel is a fantastic example of architecture from an era long ago...Real timber, not machined, hand cut beams...Yes it is old, but a fantastic place to stay.
The staff where great...
Yes , we had issues, but they sorted them , and that is a good sign...
We will be back....

If like me, you like cleanliness and want to feel comfortable in your hotel room...DO NOT STAY HERE. I have never stayed in a hotel which is in so much need of a bathroom refurbishment. The hotel staff were friendly and accomodating and allowed me to look at other rooms which to my dissapointed were all the the same , old, shabby, smelly bathrooms. My sink was cracked, my floor tiles were cracked, the shower rail rusty with the curtain hanging off and a chipped bath with a stained pink colour engrained. If you peered down the plug hole it was covered in thick black dirt and the carpet looked like it hadnt been hoovered for a number of days. The TV had a layer of dust and there was a disgusting smell which seemed as if coming from the drains and burning chip fat from the kitchen through the air con. I have never been compelled to write a review before but feel I have to warn people to save your money and avoid this hotel.
