“Has potential, but ...”
Reviewed 27 August 2012

This hotel promises much but delivers less.

It is set in plenteous grounds, and looks lovely from the outside. The welcome is pleasant and the facilities, as described to us, sound amazing. When we got to our room, it looked great and was clean. The exposed beams in the ceilings gave an old-fashioned ambiance to a modern extension to the main block.

Then we realised that the TV remote did not work. One bedside light did not work. The table near the TV was rickety. The paintwork in the bedroom showed signs of damp. There was a bulb gone in the bedroom ceiling. There was a hanging rail (even over the desk!), but no wardrobe doors, so we had an ironing board to look at in bed (in the absence of TV...!) There was no convenient socket in which to plug in the kettle. And so on.

The mirror in the bathroom did not have a light over it, and was so far behind the sink that shaving or putting-on make-up was not going to be possible. And there was a bulb gone in the bathroom ceiling.

The dinner menu in the retaurant was pricey and lacked choice, but the breakfast was of a high standard.

The swimming pool (12m long) was good, and the rest of the Spa facilities adequate.

More attention to detail would make this deserving of a return visit. Maybe the Manager should try staying in some of these rooms for a night or two to see things from the guests' viewpoint?

Room Tip: Check everything electric before you unpack: it will be easier to move into a different room!

Thank you for your comments, please accept my apologies that the standard of your room was not up to our usual high standard, further training will take place to ensure that these areas are checked and reported as a matter of course. I can confirm that I regularly stay at the Hotel as do the team managers. I hope to welcome you back soon.

If you are booking this hotel be careful, you may not get a room that it shows on their website. We booked a double guest thinking we would get one that it shows, how wrong we were. we got a dingy room at the back of the main house, above the pool so it was unbearably hot. Hazel on reception was lovely and did move us but only for one night when we had booked for two (hotel full). Then due to upset I unfortunatley left one of my favourite tops in the wardrobe. when I phoned the Hotel to ask if they had found it they weren't very helpful at all, and no top has been found?

Room Tip: 71 and 73 awful

Thank you for your comments I am sorry that it was not clear that there are different standards of rooms, to guarantee yourself a room with a view I would recommend booking a Deluxe Room. Please accept my apologies that your top was not found by the hotel staff. Kind regards

We had a great 2 days at the Billesley. The room was a decent size and clean. Breakfasts were self service and a good choice. Coffee was first class. The gardens are lovely, make sure you check out the little church in the grounds. If I was to be picky, I would say that the reception staff could be a little more knowledgeable. When I asked what time the park and ride closed on a night, they didn't know. They did, however endeavor to find out. Unfortunately, the answer they found which was 5:30pm, was wrong. It closes at 11:30pm.
If you are visiting Stratford, this is an ideal place to stay and I would recommend the park and ride.

We had a premium room on the second floor overlooking the topiary in the garden. A little traffic noise from the adjacent minor road but nothing to disrupt relaxation. Bathroom was small but extremely well finished, spotlessly clean and in excellent repair. My husband is a property maintenance man and knows about these things! Bedroom was spacious with well planned lighting, and a decent size table and chairs for tea and reading. Only slight down point was the climbing plant outside, over part of the windows, but it did add to the ambience. Breakfast was all buffet, with an excellent selection of cereals, fresh and dried fruit and nuts, yoghurt, continental board with ham, cheese and smoked fish, all the usual cooked English items, toast and small Danish pastries and croissants. At last we've found somewhere where the cook can do proper scrambled egg that tastes like it, rather than the usual white, watery slodge! Even so, several guests asked for other individual preferences and staff were only too happy to oblige.
Our only issue was with the lack of signs to help you navigate the corridors and stairs. In a large converted building it's inevitable that you end up with a bit of a rabbit warren, but it does help enormously to have clear signs saying "Reception this way" or similar. Overall stonking good value for money - our deal was £55 each B & B.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have lovely views of the garden and topiary. The latter is quite something even...

Myself and my Fiance stayed at the Billesley Manor hotel last week for four nights. What a beautiful building. In lovely countryside, and grounds. All staff we had dealings with were friendly helpful and polite, what you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. Our room was in the converted barns, a spacious room, well equiped, modern bathroom. The water temperature in the shower did fluctuate on occasion. We were staying B&B and there is a short walk from the barns to the main hotel where Breakfast located, however large umbrellas are provided for the use of the guests so even on days when it was raining this was not an issue. Breakfast is buffet style. Ideal for those who are not keen on a full english.Great choice of other breakfast dishes. Choices of cereal, fruit, seeds, nuts, yogurt, pastries, cheese, meat, and salmon or mackrel. The toasting machine was a bit tempremental ,all the full English items you would expect. Also a good variety of fresh juices. After the first morning of a three course breakfast, I realised I'd better not be so greedy on other days or would leave looking the size of a house.
The bar is very pretty inside and outside in the gorgeous gardens. However food and drinks are pricey. As a treat we had dinner in the A la Carte restaurant on our last evening. Again pricey, but the food was beautiful, staff were wonderful, and a thoroughly worthwhile experience. For a more affordable meal can recommend the Blue Boar Inn about a 30 minute walk from the hotel. Lovely food, very nice staff, and not just pub grub, my partner had the ploughmans platter, I can recommend pie of the moment. The only downside is the location of the hotel, if you want to walk into Strafford, it is too far. Driving or taxi's are the only option. The nearest bus stop or train station is around a 4 mile walk into Wilmcote Village, up a very steep hill. Great for walkers but not for those less mobile. But if you have a car it is perfect for driving to Statford, and Warwick, then you return to a wonderful old hotel, with masses of character and history. All in all I would highly recommend a visit, and myself and my fiance will definitly be returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in an end barn room. Was very spacious.

Generally, the hotel is lovely from the outside, with nice gardens and a terrace area which was great to relax at in the evenings as the sun was going down. The breakfast was good with plenty of hot and cold options.

The only problem that we had was that we arrived on a very hot day and on arrival our room was stuffy and extremely uncomfortable. There was no air conditioning, so the best we could do was open all of the windows, however we could only open these a little as they were on restrictors. We complained to reception and to give her her due, the lady on reception did offer to let us take her fan as there were no others.

Overall, the hotel was good, with the lack of temperature control in the room being our only complaint.

Thank you for you post, I am sorry that the hot rooms let down your stay. Unfortunately we do not have airconditioning built into our bedrooms here, although we will increase our portable units in time for next years hot spell. Kind regards
