“Lovely old manor house with friendly staff but poor sleep quality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

We have just spent two nights at Billesley Manor and enjoyed our stay with two qualifications.

Our issue are that the soundproofing between rooms is quite poor and hence sleep quality is not good. On our second night guests were noisily walking the corridors in the early hours of the morning and we awoke later to snoring in an adjacent room and then talking and TV noises.

On our arrival the young women in reception was neither friendly nor helpful and when we finally came to pay our bill we and other customers had to wait in reception until a staff member eventually appeared. A bell to call for reception assistance would be good .Also the reception area is rather tired with warn wood work and fading carpets.

On registering we were not informed that we needed a four number code to exit the grounds via the electronic barrier. Hence, on attempting to leave the grounds we were met by a closed barrier and a keypad but no intercom system !! This barrier is some considerable distance from the main building and as a phone call to reception went unanswered we had to repeatedly ring other sections of the hotel until we finally obtained the exit code. This hotel really needs better reception staff.

Dinner in the hotel restaurant was excellent but breakfast was pretty awful with tough sausages, fatty bacon and stale fried tomatoes.

Based on a recommendation from another Tripadvisor member we booked room 3 which was huge with an equally huge bathroom and heating on demand.

On arrival a 50 pounds security deposit was taken from our account and that money has still not been refunded even though it is now six days since we stayed at the hotel. Mind you the cost of our stay HAS been taken from our account !!

A grand old Manor House in which we would stay again but it does have a few problems.

Room Tip: Ask for room 3

We stayed in one of the rooms not in the main building, it was a very nice room.

It was a shame that some of the period features were somewhat hidden. The bathroom was laid out very badly, but services our needs.

Overall the presentation was nice. The gardens were lovely, albeit aside from the topiary section there didn't seem to be much to look at.

I'd recommend booking the spa in advance as we were unable to get in on the day.

I guess I should rate the food in a separate thing for the restaurant, suffice to say it was fantastic.

Thank you for your recent post following your stay at Billesley Manor. I am pleased that all aspects of your visit were positive including your room and that you found the food to be fantastic.

The spa does get very busy for treatments so it is definitely good advice to pre book. I do hope you will return again soon.

Kind regards

Jason

I came with four girlfriends for a couple of nights in two rooms. They allocated two large rooms next to each other in our own section at the top of the house so our noisier than usual antics did not disturb anyone else. We'd recommend room 11/12 the only fault being the water pressure wasn't very good at the top of the hotel so I chose to have my showers in the spa.

Rooms were clean and comfortable, with robes and slippers. We had a light lunch and the set menu dinner which were both faultless. Breakfast is served until 10 and is plentiful, as are the beverages to set you up for the day.

The staff were so pleasant and helpful throughout the hotel and spa.The hotel staff didn't mind us staying around the table chatting after breakfast or dinner. We gave them a good tip for these reasons. If you do want to tip them don't add it to the card bill as they don't get it!

Travelling into Stratford is easy but being away from the hassle of it all was nice. The grounds were lovely and funny topiary made us laugh. I did a good run around the perimeter of the grounds and neighbouring hedgerow lanes which was lovely.

The offer good deals on their website and I'd like to return with my children soon.

We have just returned after spending a night at this hotel. The manor from the outside is beautiful, set in wonderful topiary gardens and is really impressive, but oh dear, first impressions as you entered reception, a shabby not too clean entrance, leading to a reception in need of a lot of TLC , reception staff who gave the impression they did not want to be there and not very welcoming. However, we dined in the restaurant, the food was beautifully prepared and presented and our waitress and waiters were lovely, nothing too much trouble. Our bedroom No.10 was great, beautiful large room and en-suite with lovely views over the garden, not recommended for anyone with a walking disability or back problem as there is no lift and room is on second floor reached by a steep spiral staircase,

Room Tip: No lifts so ground floor recommended if walking or back problems, 2nd floor reached by steep spiral...

The building and grounds look impressive and staff are very pleasant and professional however it then falls short. Room allocation, machinery noise, food quality and price, and major facilities unavailable at key times. Not worth £235 for 2 nights and ending up spoiling our Romantic Getaway.

A return visit to this hotel left us NOT wanting more. The welcome at reception wasnt! We felt we were a minor inconvenience turning up. Decor and furnishings in need to some refresh & TLC. Breakfasts wouldnt set you up for the day, with the vat of uncooked and unappealing mushrooms leaving you with a phobia of fungi! Bathroom flooded after one shower due to seal on shower screen not sealing. The final nail was the £12 classic club sandwich! It was classic alright! Having reflected on its quality and presentation overnight the cost was removed from the bill. Great location, not ideal for those with mobility issues or those who want to experience four star service. I wouldnt say this was a value for money experience.

Took advantage of an offer to return to the hotel for a second visit in 7 months. Not quite as nice a room as our first visit as the views of the beautiful gardens were less visible from our loft type window (room 38). However, this did not detract from the enjoyment of our stay which, through the offer, we felt was extremely good value for money. As other reviewers have commented, the restaurant meals could work out a little pricey when you add on 'sides' as extras. That said, the food and service we experienced could not be faulted. The staff throughout the hotel gave us excellent service and whilst we didn't manage to take the names of all of them we would particularly single out Freddie for consistently going the extra mile with her customer service (not to mention keeping us entertained!) and the young lady on reception who checked us in (very efficient, organised, helpful and friendly). We made use of the pool and its facilities and found it very relaxing but would agree with other reviews that a few more loungers would be useful. Overall a great place for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings.
