Ate here tonight, awesome food, staff very friendly. Setting is stunning and restaurant was lovely, fantastic ambiance. Little pricey for pub style food but didn't mind in the end as was so good. Eat here!

A bright sunny day in Stratford and we wanted to eat a light lunch outside, so we spotted that The White Swan was offering a range of salads, on their outside billboard and there was a table free in a bright sun drenched position. The hotel has recently been renovated to a high standard, but has retained all its many15th Century characteristics. The outside tables are shielded from the busy pavement and roadway and one can sit and watch the world go by and the overseas tourists surging into Shakespeare's town.

You order at the bar and the waitress serves you at the table. I ordered the Chicken Ceasar Salad and my wife the Salad Nicoise supported by two glasses of white wine and sparking water. The food arrived promptly, but to our surprise each dish included an undercooked poached egg hiding in the centre of each dish. So undercooked, that the gluttonous egg white lay like frog spawn in the centre of the plate. A mackerel in my wife's salad was also unexpected, as tuna is the norm in salad nicoise, but nevertheless it was fresh with a tasty flavour, though slightly undercoloured for a pan fried fish. My chicken, anchovises and bacon were firm and juicy. Every component of the meal was well received but the undercooked poached egg undermind each dish. We should have complained at that point, sadly we did not, but tried to scrap the eggs into our servettes and eat on.

My wife's pleasure from her dish was clearly marred by this egg 'feature'. Surely, salads call for quartered boiled eggs, not undercooked poached eggs. (Just a tip for the chef - a lttle vinegar added to the boiling water helps to 'set' the white of a poached egg!). For me, it was an experience I would not want to repeat, particulaly when our bill for two salads, two glasses of wine and water was £37.

We mentioned our concerns to the manager on our departure and he apologised, but the chef should know he should not send out to customers such undercooked poached eggs. Neither dish needed a poached egg!

This is a lovely hotel which has been renovated to a high standard and keeping the old style beautifully. We stayed in a Grand Room with a big bathroom and roll top bath. Our room was at the back of the hotel so it was very quiet, we didn't hear any street noise at all although the hotel is in a great location right next to Shakespeare's Birthplace. We had dinner in the restaurant one night which was really good. I would very much recommend this hotel for a stay in Stratford.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back - the views not great, but it is very quiet.

Stayed at the White Swan for one night. Our overall opinion of the hotel was that it was nice and very reasonably priced.
On arrival the reception area is very impressive with a beautiful chandalier and lovely staircase.
All the staff at the hotel were both friendly and professional.
The rooms were very clean, although they were on the small side. Tea and coffee facilities were available. My only disappointment was that there was no bath in our room, a shower only. Not sure if this is standard but next time we visit will definitely request a room with a bath if possible.
We had a light meal in the restaurant on the evening of our stay but I have to say the food was disappointing and over priced. Stratford is such a lovely place and we noticed lots of nice places to eat out, we wish we had tried a restaurant in the town. However saying this, breakfast the following morning made up for the night before!!! Fab breakfast, loads to choose from and really nice. Although it was myself and my husband staying at the hotel, I would not hesitate to return with our little girl next time. We were given a 10% discount whilst checking out for our next visit which was a nice touch.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bath!!!

We have just got back from our over night stay at The White Swan, and it did not disappoint. Friendly staff from the moment we arrived until the time we checked out. Our room was the Macbeth room and was wonderfully decorated, attention to detail fantastic. The bathroom was amazing, tried out both the bath and shower, I must say the shower was the best I've had! We enjoyed an evening meal in the hotels restaurant. Unfortunately we did not get the name of our waitress but she was great. I was a liitle disappointed as steak was not on the menu but our waitress spoke with the chef who said he would do it for us anyway. One of the best steaks I've had, beautifully cooked and full of flavour. Presentation second to none. A wonderful evening. Would have been a great nights sleep except for my husbands snoring! Breakfast was great too. A selection of fruits, cereals, toast, continental meats and cheese as well as the full English and other choices from the menu. Location excellent too. I really cannot think of anything negative to say. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

We stayed on a Saturday night having found this place on Tripadvisor. We booked late and got the last room in the hotel – which was on the top-floor right at the end of the corridor. This turned out to be a good thing for us as very quiet. The room was newly decorated, was very clean, and had a large walk-in shower – and modern black and white tiled bathroom. Not a great view but at the end of the day as there for the weekend only we didn't spend much time in the room. The pub downstairs has a nice range of drinks (as you’d expect from a Fullers pub) and good atmosphere. We ate dinner there and had very good ‘pub grub’. Kids menu had plenty of choice for our son, as did the main menu. Our son enjoyed the burger. Overall service very competent and friendly. Breakfast was fine for a small hotel of this size. As previous reviewers have stated the parking is a little annoying – but part from that a good value, clean, well appointed hotel.

First and foremost the staff in this hotel are excellent. We arrived late, missed the dinner deadline but still the chef sorted out something for us without a fuss.

The food is good and the chef knows how to cook a steak properly so its a good start. Its a fullers establishment with a master cellarman and cask marque, and that basically means excellent well kept beers and a good choice of products in the bar. I think it was steve who was one of the restaurant managers that was extremely helpful and courteous at all times

The hotel as many say doesn't really have a car park but there is a deal with a nearby car park and its not a major issue.

The room had obviously had a deliberate design to it and looked very presentable with a big bedstead type bed, various pillows and cushions. The bathroom was big with a walk in shower, slipper bath and separate sinks.

Thats the good stuff, but we did have a few issues such as the air conditioning not working properly although this was dealt with by their very friendly maintenance guy coming along and hoovering it out (so preventative maintenance is key!) and it was ice cold again. Hot water went off due to gas issue that was fixed by the hotel fairly quickly and then on check out on the sunday the lift clapped out.....But generally I think these are more teething issues than an overall indication of the standard of this hotel and thus the very good rating.

So we'd stay here again as its central to the town, its good good food and beer and great staff...
