“Best Ever”

Stayed weekend Friday 5th October and found a superb hotel (circa 1450) with the warmest of welcomes.
The reception staff were so helpfull, as indeed was everyone else. Our "Classic Room", could be described as on the small side but was perfect in terms of warmth, decoration and cleanliness. The timbered bar area and resteraunt reflected the historic nature of the hotel which suported by the service staff made the experience all the better. It has often been my experience in other hotels that customer facing staff can be everage to poor, however, the bar staff as with the resteraunt team were all so happy and helpfull as were the supervisors/managers who were all service driven and in evidence at all times.
Nothing was too much "what a find".

We had pre read the reviews and had noted the car park was £8 extra per day and a short walk away, some reviews say its ten mins away, maybe if your old or have walking issues I can see it being a pain and may take you that long, but I'm 37 and its a 4 min walk. However there is one small loading bay outside the hotel which when we turned up had a lorry parked in it unloading for the shop next door and as you can't use the car park untill you check in and pick up a voucher to put in the window, it ment we had to pay £1 to park in the public car park in the square just outside the hotel to unload the suitcases, not the end of the world, however, we arrived at 2.20pm, 40 mins before official check in, so we did not expext to be able to go to the room, they took the suitcases , gave us the parking voucher and we went to move the car to the official car park. Arrived at the official car park at 2.40pm to be told by a grumpy man in a booth that the £8 fee covered us from 3pm only so we would have to pay him cash for 1 hour of parking to be able to park 20 mins early. This I did not like and left a bad taste in my mouth, I told him I'd rather waste 20 mins driving round than satisfy his jobs worth behaviour. We still had our £1 parking ticket for the square, so we went back there, had a drink in a near by pub and then returned to park the car at 3.10pm. We then checked in to collect the room key, I did mention the parking and unloading of suitcases was a pain, but the receptionist thought I was complaining about the walking distance and just brushed me off and started serving the next person. I'm glad I did not walk away as the room and hotel are lovely, one night I asked for 2 champagne glasses and that was not an issue, the 2 breakfasts we had tasted lovely and were not too large or small, the only issue we had was that we were asked if we wanted white or brown toast or a mixture, we went for a mix as one likes white and the other brown, we recieved a mix of one white and 5 brown, I can live with that and it was the only issue food or drink wise we had, however , we were lucky, the waiters bringing the food out have no idea what table the food is for, they walk round to see who is looking the most expectant and go to that table, if the food is wrong they try the next most expectant customer. The table next us actually took the wrong order knowingly just so they could get some food. Another poor couple asked for tea and coffee, after asking 3 different waiters, one of which seemed to be the floor manager and she was asked 3 times during our 30 min breakfast, they were still waiting on the tea when we left, there just seemed to be no record of what table ordered what and a lot of people mentioned this. Apart from the parking issues caused during check in, our stay was lovely and we would happily stay again, the room 101 was large and well equipped and the bed was very hard to get out of in the morning, you honestly could get lost in. Ment you wake up feeling very well rested. On the second morning we asked for a local map and the gentlemen not only gave us one but opened it up and showed us not only the best routes to places we were going to, but also drew stars to highlight restaurant areas and made recommendations on ones he has eaten in, even suggesting menu items that he thought were standout meals, I found him to be very polite, professional, knowledgeable and we took his recommendation to try a restaurant called No9 and it was truly a wonderful dinner and exactly as he said a short walk to the RSC for the play that evening. So to summaries, a lovely central hotel that we would use again, a new system in the restaurant is need and perhaps the ability to pre print at home a parking voucher so you can go straight there, drop the car off and check in and some flexibility to park without extra charge if you arrive say up to an hour early.

We stayed here for one night for our wedding anniversary. After an in initial error on internet booking, which the hotel dealt with very well, we were assigned the Romeo and Juliet room. The bedroom was lovely, fairly small but we knew we were booking one of the "character" rooms in the Inn part of the hotel. The bathroom was gorgeous with a stunning deep bath and a walk in shower. Although our room was directly above the bar and facing the town square I was surprised at how little nosie we experienced on a Friday night
The hotel has been refurbished this year and we felt they had done a superb job keeping the character of old. The location is excellent, we turned a corner and there was Shakespear's birthplace and the Shakespear's trust!
We ate at the hotel in the evening and between us tried all the dishes from the set menu. The food was lovely, the ambiance wonderful and the service very good. We were also very happy with the cooked breakfast and the cereal, fruit and pastries etc that we could help ourselves to.
We would definately recommend this hotel and hope to return!

Room Tip: The character rooms are in the original Inn and the classic/grand rooms in the newer, hotel part.

We absolutely loved this place! Even my husband said WOW when we walked in the room.We stayed for one night, as it was a last minute thing, and it was fully booked for the saturday. Staff, reception, hotel, room. atmosphere, food in the restaurant, which is beautiful, fabulous! Stayed at a so called manor house on the saturday, and was so disappointed.Have recommended this beautiful place to our friends, and will be back again!

Room Tip: We stayed in a grand room, fantastic!

We stayed for 2 nights at the start of October for my birthday. We had room 117, which was large in size, looked stunning, comfy bed, and very modern en-suite with shower/bath. I loved the plaques outside each room which all had a small quote written upon them, this was a lovely touch. The lounge/dining area was full of character and the staff were kind, helpful and very friendly. The breakfast....all anybody could want and more, a choice for everyone :)
The only things which you should know is that the car park is a 5 minute walk away and its £8 per night. You can have this payment added to your room price if u wish to do so.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone and we would stay again if we are in the area.

Staff were knowledeable, freindly and efficient. The bedroom was small in size but well equipped. The bathroom was great. Breakfast had a good selection of continental and hot food. The bar was a bit disappointing we expected a selection of real ales but they were all fillers and as everyone seemed to be drinking wine or lager the throughput was not enough to maintain quality. A great location for the main sites and the history of the building was interesting. I am a very light sleeper and really struggled within the generator noise even with ear plugs, however my partners slept blissfully. Would probably recommend to others.

A large hotel and restaurant in a good location in the centre of town. Didn't stay here but had a very nice Sunday dinner. Although a little bit on the expensive side there is a nice atmosphere and makes for quite a nice romantic evening. 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine came in at about £80.
