I mention it is owned by Fullers as I think it's important it's part of a chain rather than an independent venture.

We made a late booking via the website and took advantage of the on-line discount that reduced the cost of our standard room from £120 to £104. None of the more superior rooms were available. The rate included breakfast.

The hotel is in a great central location by the market square. It is a beautiful old building and the pub that fronts it is full of warmth and charm. We sat on one of the leather sofas in the window by the log fire and enjoyed some good Fullers ale. The pub was very busy during this Saturday lunchtime.

The guy on reception was a little abrupt and almost confrontational in his style but we found all other staff to be very helpful and friendly.

The standard room was fine though not one you would choose for a special occasion. The bed and duvet were exceptionally comfy. We had problems with hot water in that it seemed to run out at the time of our evening ablutions. This really irked me so we reported it to reception. Weirdly I found that while hot water was OK in the shower, the tap was lukewarm. The manager was very helpful in dealing with our issue and it was resolved to our complete satisfaction.

We ate in the restaurant, having reserved a table, an act that proved unnecessary given that it was almost empty! Also somehow our chosen table was occupied by another couple! Again satisfactorily resolved by staff. Food was perfectly nice without being exceptional. I had a rib eye steak that was too thin and cooked in a special oven that I didn't think did it any favours.

Breakfast was nice but took too long arriving.

Definitely recommended for a few nights in Stratford. To make it special try a superior room.

Stayed in Room 101 at the White Swan, Stratford. What a beautiful room - very olde worlde but with all modern comforts. Very large comfortable bed, separate dressing room and spaious bathroom with enormous cast iron bed. Delightful place to stay.

Room Tip: The Character Rooms are all individual and in the older part of the hotel

We stayed here for two nights in March. Our room was beautiful and had a super bathroom with both a big bath and a walk in shower. The bed was extremely comfortable. The furnishings were attractive and we appreciated the good tea and coffee selection plus the free drinks in the fridge. One comment on the room is that there were no drawers - a pity as everything else was so good.
The staff were friendly and helpful and we had a great chat with one staff member about the history of the hotel and the wall painting in the bar. There was a lovely atmosphere here, which made it seem like home.
The breakfast was superb, with an excellent selection and beautifully cooked.
As another reviewer has mentioned, this was excellent value when compared to Stratford b&bs

We stayed for just one night in The White Swan over the Easter Weekend. Compared to the humble b&b that we had stayed in on the previous two nights, it offered exceptional value for money. The traditional
bar and restaurant areas felt cosy and welcoming and our breakfast and evening meal were both delicious. At breakfast, my request for the eggs that came with my full English to be made into an omelette was no problem. At dinner it was appreciated that we could enjoy an intimate meal away from the bar area on a candlelit table and the service was efficient and attentive but not fussy.
While the standard double room was very small, it was clean, pleasantly decorated and the bed very comfortable. The drench shower was definitely a bonus.
A minor confusion occurred when we approached a young woman who was working on reception after dinner,to try and sort out a problem with a faulty key card for our room. Oddly, though stationed at reception, the woman could not speak sufficient English to be able to communicate with us over the problem. Eventually she contacted another member of staff to come and speak to us and the problem was quickly dealt with but we thought it odd to have someone with very little English on the main desk. We were puzzled by this, as it was not in keeping with the otherwise very good and professional service.
However, we enjoyed a very agreeable stay and would definitely choose The White Swan again.
