The White Swan Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 October 2013

The hotel location is ideal as it's within easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants. On arrival we were able to unload our luggage around the back of the hotel and then park in a public car park a couple mins walk away.

We had a classic room (rm 206) as it was all that was available when we booked; it had a heavy price increase as it was the CLA Game Fair weekend. Not great timing on our part as we were not attending the Game Fair anyway.

The room itself was smallish but a perfect temperature, tastefully decorated and clean. The bed was comfortable and cosy and there was a range of toiletries and amenities including a flat screen tv, a blow dryer, tea/coffee and even fresh milk in the fridge, as well as complimentary bottles of water. Two big windows overlook a car par at the back, not a great view but pretty nice and quiet.

An extra bonus was having wifi throughout the hotel.

We did not stay long enough to really see all the hotel facilities but the bar area was comfortable and had lots of nooks and crannies – we enjoyed some pre-dinner drinks there.

Breakfast was also served in this area and to our surprise the breakfast was OUTSTANDING! Very, very, good. It was almost the highlight of the stay.

The staff and service was varied, sometimes excellent, friendly and helpful, others times a rather offhand attitude.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. May have been better value for money on another, non-event weekend.

Room Tip: Room 206 was small but light and very comfortable, bit of a trek from reception and overlooks the ba...

Just had a lovely night at the White Swan, great location, great food, great beer & wine, great staff, what more can one say. Very clean and tidy, a credit to all that work at the White Swan. We will be back to enjoy the hospitality again.

Fullers seem to be growing the accommodation side of their business and if The White Swan is anything to go by, they're doing it really well.

Although it's a relatively large building, it feels intimate and the irregular layout of the floors helps maintain its historical character. Our room was a good size and had a wonderful bathroom, everything fresh and new.

The location is great and you leave the building straight into the heart of Stratford.

Room Tip: If staying on the upper floors you might want to use the lift to avoid getting lost....

Having stayed three times previously in Stratford at what could be described as more "corporate"
hotels, the White Swan was an absolute delight. It has undergone a refurbishment recently and the public areas have been immaculately and sympathetically restored to their Elizabethan origins whilst the rooms have a boutique appearance. We stayed in a grand double with a bathrooom boasting a free standing roll-top bath and double walk-in shower cubicle. Nice touches included complimentary water and soft drinks in the fridge together with a small bottle of fresh milk rather than the usual plastic pots. We did not have an evening meal at the hotel so cannot comment on that, but the the breakfast was excellent, All cooked to order rather than left to stew under a hot display cabinet. The car parking was not admittedly on site, but was only a few minutes walk away and perfectly acceptable - a trade off against the town centre location. Unfortunately the original builder, in 1450, did not factor into the design the requirement for vehicles! Could not be faulted in any way and will definitely be back.

after more than a decade of visiting stratford (to see everything performed at the RSC) and having stayed in nearly every significant hotel - i feel compelled to write

my stay at the White Swan was a sheer delight - from the reception staff at check in, to the quality of the rooms and bedding, earl grey tea in the room - i could go on

but as someone who has a cooked breakfast every morning - the omelette with smoked haddock - surprised and delighted me. And to top it off when i declined toast - was offered gluten free toast - of the best quality and toasted to perfection.

Cant tell you how many hotels i stay in where this is stand out service in every sense - well done to the team and I look forward to staying again

Room Tip: always a challenge when you stay in a town - that is clean - you hear the bin and street cleaners in...

This is a small hotel with its entrance facing the side street, that is not accessible to cars, we were directed to use a parking lot some distance away from the hotel at a fee, so with big luggages, we had to unload the luggages first, dragging across the side street to the hotel, and then park the car and walk for a distance to the hotel again. This is troublesome for first timer to the place, why don't they recommend the parking lot at the back which is nearest.? The room is comfortable with antique furniture, service good, staffs helpful, breakfast good but bit slow going.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with big luggages, I suggested you use the parking lot at the back nearest the...

Great location, near many sights and less than 10 min walk to river front etc, essentially right at the city center, with many shops and restaurants nearby. Staff were helpful. Room was good, clean and functional, spacious bathroom, good decor. Good breakfast also (but slow service, particularly for cook breakfast). Free wifi but problematic connection often, effectively useless (in my room)!.
Parking was a bit inconvenient as there is no hotel parking on site and had to pay 11 pounds to park at a parking lot about 5-8 min walk away.. Actually there is a public park and pay car park adjacent to the back door of the hotel, and the staff could have advised clients re this alternative. The parking rate is only slightly higher, but at least clients can park their car here while unloading! From our experience, empty slots often available at this car park.

Dear tanmalaysia_11

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Your comments with regards the car parks are valid. We are in discussions with the owners of the car park at the rear of the hotel.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay and apologies for the slow service for cooked breakfast.

I look forward to seeing again in the future
