“A wonderful trip, just the most perfect birthday!”
Reviewed 7 December 2013 via mobile

We stayed in the Hamlet character room and love it, very intimate, romantic and the staffs attention to detail was wonderful, when we checked in the receptionist wished me happy birthday, checked our dinner reservation and googled where it was so when we came downstairs she had a map of where it was. In our room was a birthday cake on a slate platter....how sweet was that! Breakfast was a little slow BUT the staff were wonderfully apologetic and explained they were short staffed. When we got our food it was worth the wait, fresh, hot and extremely good!

We would go back in a shot....this place is a real gem...thanks to all there for a lovely trip that myself and my gorgeous man (who spoilt me rotten for my birthday) loved and really needed after a stressful few months, we were able to recharge our batteries, unwind and relax in lovely surroundings ...THANKS!

We stayed here recently and found the hotel staff very helpful, particularly Robert on reception who was very friendly and helpful.
The hotel was central and all local attractions were easily accessible. Car parking was very cheap as well which was a bonus.
However I do think that the overall cost of the hotel was expensive for what it was. It was pleasant enough and whilst the room was very clean and had everything we needed it was pretty basic.

We stayed here when we went to see a play at the RSC. It's beautifully decorated and very cosy, has some great Shakespeare related antiques and pictures and the rooms all have Shakespeare quotes on plaques outside the door. Service was very good, wld only say that the set menu at the restaurant wasn't outstanding but ok.

Booked this last minute and felt it was a great bargain. The hotel is right in the centre of Stratford which was excellent. We were able to park more or less outside to unload the car, then had to move the car to a car park a few minutes away - this cost £11 per day, which I did feel expensive, but I guess that is not the fault of the hotel as they do not have a car park and Stratford expensive to park in general. The staff were exceptionally helpful, and even gave us a free upgrade to a room including a roll top bath! The room itself was beautifully decorated, clean and fresh. The bathroom huge with a rainfall shower and the most lovely roll top bath (yes, it fits two, easily!!). The complimentary toiletries were classy and lovely! Breakfast served in the restaurant was efficient with a selection of cereal/yogurts/fruit etc, then a cooked breakfast selection including full English, eggs Benedict, omelette, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon etc - all very tasty and well presented. I would fully recommended this hotel, the candlelit bar was a lovely place to have an evening drink and my partner very much rated the selection of real ales! I did not have any complaints, with the exception of the slightly bumpy mattress and rough bottom sheet, but that was an observation, not a complaint - I would most certainly stay here again, thanks to all the lovely staff and facilities ;o)

Stayed only one night to go to theatre.A very beautiful hotel: tastefully decorated, mixing old with new perfectly. Fabulously comfy - we treated ourselves and stayed in the four-poster bed. It was worth every penny!! Probably the most comfy bed I've ever slept in. And the bath and shower were to die for! The staff were lovely: very friendly and very good.

My only criticisms would be the breakfast (full english), which wasn't as good as it could have been and sad looking buffet and the fact that, having parked some way away and walked carrying bags, there was no offer of a bell boy to carry the bags up to a £180 per night room. Parking is an issue which is mentioned quite clearly when booking. It is best to park briefly at the rear of the hotel, book in and then drive to car park, in order to save energy.

However, I would go again most definitely.

We live in Stratford and really like the new refurbishment of The White Swan where we frequently enjoy a drink in the evening or a coffee during a shopping trip. We were disappointed with the Sunday lunch because of the details; no horseradish with the roast beef or mint sauce with the lamb. Yorkshire puddings were stodgy and heavy. No bread with the chicken terrine, despite requesting some, and the bread served with the soup was stale and unappetising. The beef was good and so were the roast potatoes but the service was very slow. So much so that we left before dessert and went to a nearby coffee house for cakes and coffee to finish our meal.
We really want the establishment to do well in the town but they need to pull their socks up if they want to compete with the other hotels. We shall not be eating here again.

Stayed two nights, visiting Stratford specifically to see "Anthony & Cleopatra" at the Swan Theatre.

It's well situated, close to the pedestrian area, main shops and restaurants; a gentle 10 min walk to the theatre.

Parking is an issue at this hotel - there isn't any, save for a handful of spaces for disabled drivers. However there is clear advice on the booking confirmation on two nearby public car parks. On arrival the best plan is to pull up in the limited space at the rear of the hotel and pause in the delivery area to offload cases, check-in and then relocate your car.

The rooms have been stylishly refurbished. We had one of the cheaper rooms (115). It was spacious, as was the bathroom with a good size bath and an efficient shower. We had a view of the fire escape, no more than that.

Breakfast was outstanding, especially the full English dish. On the service front, the staff were slow to deal with shortages in the buffet. On the first morning, I finished off the muesili. On the second morning (when we were quite early for breakfast), the empty jar was still there. Also on the first morning, the natural yoghurt had run out but no one had checked and arranged for it to be replenished. Against this, orders were taken promptly, the food arrived quickly and was very well presented, all without any sense of being rushed.

We had dinner on the second evening. The food itself and the service were excellent, although some might find the portions on the small side.

On both evenings we spent a short time in the bar. As another reviewer reported, you don't come in here for a cheap beer, It's more of a lounge with rustic features and divided into small areas. Very relaxing with a good atmosphere.

Overall, the hotel was very comfortable, good value, good food and (mostly) good service. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: If a view is important, check with the hotel first. Most rooms do not have one worthy of the name.
