“Just the place for the theatre and a great meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2014

We were visiting Stratford for an RSC performance. The White Swan offered an excellent location (five minutes brisk walk to the theatre) and a "room and meal" deal offering a discount on the a la carte menu in their restaurant. They serve from 5pm, giving plenty of time for a leisurely meal before the performance. The staff were universally friendly and helpful. We chose a "classic" room and were pleasantly surprised to find it adequately-sized, well-appointed and interestingly decorated. Nice touches like the provision of a small bottle of proper milk in the fridge for the tea/coffee were very welcome.
The meal was not only extremely good value but was very nicely served and cooked to perfection. Someone here really knows how to cook! The menu was interesting and varied and we could easily have come back again for two or three more nights. Don't miss the superb bits of history in the form of an ancient mural on the restaurant wall and a recently discovered old book in French displayed under glass in the same place.
Although there is no on-site parking the hotel offers use of a local car park less than 2 mins walk away for just £8 overnight (3pm - 11am). Spaces are small for "big" cars!
We certainly hope to go back later in the year.

Needed a centrally located place to stay to see the RSC's "Wendy and Peter Pan" production. Chose the cheapest double room and was delighted by the quality of the room and the really responsive and friendly staff. The room may be compact but you have everything you need. Good breakfast included in the price and access to fairly priced parking just minutes away.

We stopped one night here as we attended a function in the hotel so didn't check its "trip advisor " ratings before booking (and still haven't when writing this). I had let the hotel know it was my wifes birthday and, to our joy, there was a slice of fresh birthday cake in the room on our arrival.....a lovely touch from the staff! The hotel apparently dates from the 1600s and in the public areas retains all the charm of an old coaching Inn whilst the decor in the rooms is first class with all modern amenities. Having just enjoyed a 5* breakfast, served by the most helpful staff we decided this place couldn't be faulted.....we would recommend this hotel to anyone ....especially any "new world" visitors to Stratford as this would just "top off" the experience of this lovely town.

My wife and i stayed at the White Swan recently (to see the RSC). We stayed for two nights and took advantage of an offer of discounted room (with a meal on one of the nights).
We were very pleasantly surprised (understatement :) to get an upgraded room from the rather nice chap Matthew on reception, who was very happy and helpful on our stay. The food was terrific and all the staff (especially in the restaurant) were absolutely fantastic. We will stay in this hotel again and i'd recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely stunning hotel. Don't listen to the bad reviews, I don't know what they are talking about. We have stayed in loads of hotels at home and abroad and this is by far the best. The staff are the friendliest people I have had the pleasure in being served by. We stayed for valentines weekend and the barmen were singing romantic songs to themselves behind the bar, which was lovely to hear and the one asked my husband if he could present me with a rose. My husband is very ill and we were holding hands waiting for breakfast and I was a bit emotional, when the waiter came with our food, and he apologised for disturbing us, which I thought was so sweet. I wanted to have a valentines weekend to remember as we have to fit in so many memories as my husband has terminal cancer and has been given less than a year, so as you can understand I wanted somewhere very special and this went above and beyond. Well done to all the staff xx

Our stay at the White Swan was absolutely wonderful. The staff were all fantastic, I've not come across such friendly staff at a hotel before. From front desk to the bar and restaurant everyone was very happy and friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant after a quick drink in the bar and were very impressed with the quality of the food and again the service was great. The decor was charming and the location perfect. I'd highly recommend and we will be back!

We stayed for a couple of nights during a weekend when we were quite busy, so we didn't spend much time actually in the hotel. The room we had was rather small and I'd have found it cramped if we had been there longer; eg only one small upright chair (for two people) and the only place to store clothes was in a very small wardrobe already filled with ironing board, iron and hairdryer. The decor was fresh and the bathroom was good - no bath but a roomy shower which worked well. The bed had a hard mattress which suited us but maybe not everyone.

We only had one meal (a breakfast) and service was slow but the food was delicious. Staff seemed pleasant. Parking problematic.
