“Definitely a Swan, not an ugly duckling”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

The hotel has lots of relatively modern and spacious rooms, plus a half-dozen or so in the really old (c1450) part of the building. The latter are smaller, with lower ceilings and old-fashioned furniture, creaking floorboards, etc. They are also more expensive. But, if you're only staying a night or two, the older rooms are the ones to go for - will really enhance your 'Stratford experience'.

For the rest, the selection of beers and wines is very good, the staff were friendly, breakfasts were OK and dinner was surprisingly good - I had a dish of monkfish, with a crab-cake and poached duck's egg on seasonal vegetables and microherbs that a Michelin starred restaurant would not have been ashamed of.

We took a Polish friend (who works in the hotel trade) to stay there - and she was wowed by it!

Room Tip: The old rooms are the best! Don't worry too much about facing onto the street, because Stratfor...

There is documentary evidence that he could well have, and it takes little imagination to see shades of Will at every turn in this atmospheric hotel. Yes, it's old but beautifully conserved without looking 'done over'.
It has of course: good size rooms, comfy beds and pillows, fine bed linen, tea/coffee maker, free wifi, fridge with complimentary spring water (still and sparkling), beautiful walk in shower and chic decor. The food was superb too! AND the staff.
A small terrace at the front of the hotel allows you to take in the bustle of this busy town and the bus stops are nearby. However, everything is within walking distance including an easy stroll to Ann Hathaway's Cottage - highly recommended.
The car park for this hotel is confusing first off but we soon got the hang of it. We stayed for 2 nights in mid April, having booked weeks in advance for Henry IV (1) at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. It was an unmissable experience.

About 4 miles east of Stratford is Charlecote Park where Will got nabbed for killing a deer. The house and park are well worth visiting and there is a Flying Club en route for coffee or lunch - you don't need to be a member...just sit on the terrace and see some wonderful biplanes.

We stayed here for one night and will definitely stay here again when in Stratford. Our room (105) was quite small but well equipped with a lovely bathroom and good quality towels and bed linen. The pub/ bar downstairs was cosy yet spacious and tastefully furnished. Breakfast choices were plentiful, nicely cooked and service was very attentive....lots of friendly, helpful staff available throughout.

Stayed for 2 nights. Excellent location close to the centre and the Shakespeare properties that we explored. We stayed in a grand room with a fantastic shower and very large roll top bath. The room itself was big enough for us. The fridge was a nice addition as the wife and I had brought along some beverages. The food was very good although we felt slightly disappointed that Saturday and Sunday evenings menu, which was included in our deal, we're the same, but as said the food and service were first class. Breakfast was good with a variety of choice. All the staff were extremely helpful and we would highly recommend this hotel, and we will be returning in the future. The bar was priced reasonably, and only slightly more expensive than a nearby waterfront bar, and is very quaint.

Room Tip: Highly recommend a grand room as after a full day walking around the beautiful area it was nice to e...

Very charming old hotel dating from medeltiden.Rum with varying class, ours was large with a large bathroom with a large bahtub. The restaurant was very cozy and the food good. A friendly pub. Friendly staff. Central location and close to the pedestrian zone. Can be recommended.

Room Tip: A little hard to find with steelit navigation

We stayed here with another couple last Sunday. First thing was upon arrival there is a very well received private car park, which, given this hotels excellent central location is a very useful advantage. We were seen to efficiently and given our rooms each one named rather than numbered (Titania and Macbeth as it happened). I was struck with the newness of the rooms fresh paintwork and solid doors, well fitted modern bathroom but also balanced with those important historic features, indeed we had a huge oak beam arching through our bedroom separating it from the bathroom beyond. The room was quite in the evening and we enjoyed a very comfortable nights sleep.
Although I cannot rave about our breakfast experience it was clear to see that the set up of breakfast is excellent with plenty of room and dining choice, regrettably we we dined and the very end of service and this showed both in the food and lack of waiters but in general nothing that anyone needs to worry about in my opinion.
We enjoyed drinks in the lounge prior to venturing out into town and also for last drinks at the end of the night - perfect.
Will we stay again - without doubt.

Room Tip: This is a very old building so the floors are uneven at best so anyone with walking difficulties sho...

We stopped by the White Swan for a drink at the outdoor pub patio and unexpectedly discovered that it was also a hotel, and a great one at that. Nice rooms, comfortable beds, and huge bathrooms. Our bathroom had an antique style tub with a large walk in shower with rain head shower. The staff were super nice and we enjoyed our stay.
