Owner description: This fifteenth-century, charming thatched cottage was the childhood home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's sweet-heart and wife.Experienced guides explain the stories behind the Shakespeare connection and the history of some well-known English idioms such as "chairman of the board".There are nine acres of gardens and grounds to explore including a lavender maze, a woodland walk, the Shakespeare arboretum and a living willow cabin where you may listen to some of Shakespeare's sonnets.

Our Hop On - Hop Off Bus Tour of Stratford-upon-Avon included entry to three of the five Shakespeare houses. We chose to visit Shakespeare's birthplace, Hall's Croft and Anne Hathaway's Cottage & Gardens. We enjoyed the latter the most.

The guided tour was very interesting and the gardens were delightful. It was a place to linger and enjoy.

Very pretty cottage and gardens. Very little to see inside. Worth going, but probably best to visit in conjunction with the other Shakespeare properties and better value for money too. We paid £17 just to look around this one property and quite frankly I don't think it was worth it. Loads of tourists visiting it though and I'm sure the'lly keep on coming.

This was our first stop on a Shakespeare themed day. There is not much to see in the house; the chair he might have sat on, the bed he might have bequeathed to her in his will... Everything seems a bit "it might be, but it's probably not". It's still a nice little place to visit though.

The gardens are a different story; they are absolutely stunning. Lots of vegetables used in pretty ways, lots of fruit trees and a nice orchard. There is also a nice walk around a wood. And the gardens by the cottage are gorgeous; not big, but a true riot of colours.

I only saw the outside from the open top city tour "hop on hop off bus", as I had little time to explore on this visit, but will definitely visit again. On a visit to Stratford about 10 years ago we explored all the Shakespeare associated museums in the town - well worth a visit.

The walk through the beautiful gardens with both vegetables and flowers to admire sets you up for the tour of the house. Inside has been preserved to let you see how it would have been all those years ago. Then finally outside again you can take a photo of the perfect "Chocolate Box" house.
