The Mary Arden Inn
Reviewed 31 March 2013

This Inn is located directly opposite Mary Arden's house and in a lovely village location only 10 mins from Stratford. The decor throughout is slightly dated and in need of an upgrade but very clean. We stayed in a room above the bar which was very noisy but I guess what you'd expect from an Inn which was also a pub. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were really nice and helpful. We ate in the bar one night and the food (traditional pub grub) was really good. For the price, we would definitely consider returning but perhaps request a different room.

Stayed for a Night on Saturday 23/03/13 with my partner. Staff extremely friendly at all times. Stopped for dinner on the evening and the meal was fantastic - everything fresh, even the sauce to accompany the steaks was freshly made. Puddings and started also great. Definitely no pre-packaged or microwave food here. Breakfast also fantastic with loads of choice. It is also extremely well situated for visits to Stratford Upon Avaon - being either a 10 minute drive max, or you can get on the train with the station only a 5 minute walk from the Inn. Definitely highly recommended indeed.

Room Tip: We had a four poster room which was extremely good.

We booked an overnight stay, room only super-deal here and travelled from Devon as a treat. The room was very poorly maintained: broken coat hooks and bathroom fittings; no complimentary soap, shampoo etc (we hadn't taken our own), broken chair and stained dressing stool.
The cold tap ran warm water, so we couldn't have a drink at night, and the electric kettle didn't switch off automatically so was red hot when we realised.
However, the one lady who was the only person serving the pub, waiting at table and on reception was very nice indeed!
This has been our only let down from many 'super-deal' offers, shame we travelled so far for it.

Room Tip: Don't choose 'Cymbeline'.

This was the most beautiful hotel and it really helped to make out Stratford experience a memorable and fantastic one!

The room was very oldy-worldy with a stunning 4 post bed. The owners were helpful without being overbearing and we had a lovely chat to the cook (and owner I think?) in the morning over breakfast (which was very tasty).

If you are looking for an authentic and cosy place to stay that mirrors the feel of Stratford then this is the place to go.

We will return - which for us is rare as we like to try out different places a lot. Stratford is a special to place to us and we hope to make another trip soon and can not imagine staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: Go for the 4-poster rooms to add an authentic feel to your stay.

Had lunch here recently. The food was excellant, freshly prepared and delicious. Would recommend it, off the beaten track from the hussle and bussle but worth the drive. Very nice stop on a good day out walking.

Oh dear, needs a massive cash injection and a style guru. Clean and tidy, but basic, could be so much more. Room adequate but definitely not 4 star, more like 2.5. Staff lovely and helpful, but no heart at this Inn.
