Great modern theatre in the style of the Globe - but with all creature comforts, including comfortable seats and a roof!! We happened along on a Saturday night, after hearing excellent reports of this production, and were extremely lucky to pick up a bargain pair of tickets for £5 each! The drawback? They were on the second row of Gallery 2 (ie back row with a padded barstool-height seat, but which necessitated standing to get a decent view). Seats at the RSC can be pricey, but you can sometimes find reductions if you plan ahead - which we WILL do next time (Ground or Gallery 1 with a front view would give the best experience).
Despite the slightly limited viewpoint, the performance was funny, witty and bawdy - suitable for those with broad minds only! A complex plot, lots of slapstick, innuendo and visual jokes, interspersed with 50s songs of Billie Holiday and B B King (sung superbly by Linda John Pierre) - Middleton's Jacobean farcical satire on a world obsessed by money and sex worked well updated to 1950s Soho.
