Owner description: The Attic Theatre is the No.1 fringe theatre in Stratford upon Avon and home to award-winning 'Tread the Boards' Theatre Company. In 2016 we begin the year with Romeo & Juliet, the only Shakespearean play being performed in Stratford during the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. First established in 2009 by Tread the Boards, an award winning theatre Company. This unique, riverside theatre is located in the heart of Shakespeares' birth town. This unique space is housed in a Grade 2 listed 15th century building and seats just 89 people. This makes for a very personal and intimate theatrical experience.

We went to a performance of Noel Coward's Present Laughter. It was great - the cast were excellent, and due to the proximity of the seating to the 'stage' it felt like we were almost part of the play.
The seats became uncomfortable after a while though and I would suggest taking something along to give yourself some lumbar support. Interval refreshments had to be bought from the bar in the Lazy Cow, which happened to be very busy, making it all very rushed. Some seasoned members of the audience had taken their own refreshments, and ate/drank in the auditorium while everyone else fought to the bar.
All in all, it was a really enjoyable evening but next time we go we will be loaded up with cushions, food and drink!
Oh - the booking process was a tad chaotic.

THis is a small and intimate theatre close to the RSC, on the outskirts of the town - it's part of the Lazy Cow complex. The regular company is 'Tread the Boards', and are very good. What they lack in finesse they make up for in enthusiasm and vigour, and the performance we saw was consequently first rate.

What a show
The Theatre is amazing, seating for just 80 the audience get to be very up close and personal.

In the home of Shakespeare the performance is always likely to be good but last night's performance of Othello was absolutely astounding.

This is one of the best performances of a Shakespeare play I have ever seen and I would rank Iago performance alongside Kevin Spacey's Richard III for sheer brilliance

Thank you

Booked into see "Present Laughter" - the final show and it was brilliant. 78 seat limit and you are effectively a part of the set as you are so close to the actors. The play was 2.5 hours long!

Play executed by all the cast to a fantastic level and our visitor's really were thrilled about the play and the cast, as we were. Would recommend a visit for the experience. RSC is great too, but the Attic has a great feeling and friendliness to it.

This was my first experience of the Attic Theater and the resident company, Tread the Boards, and without being invited to see the daughter of a friend perform in her debut professional appearance I probably would not have ventured in to the complex - and that would be my significant loss.
Present Laughter was a wonderful performance and fitted well withing this intimate environment. It was like sitting around someones' lounge, which is where the play is set, and the actors were very believable in their characterization.
Genevieve Lowe, our friend's daughter, played Miss Stillington to absolute perfection, being giddy and hopelessly infatuated with the leading man and appeared very confident in her delivery. Having said this I hope and trust that the company, should they choose to cast her again, will give her something more serious and profound to play in order to develop her repertoire and prevent type casting.

If ever you are walking through Stratford and you see a man directing you to the box office for the Attic Theatre then go for it - cheaper than the RSC and just as good - almost!
