Review of Wildwood Kitchen

Description: Wildwood Kitchen, a casual-chic pasta place on Sheep Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, is a fun and laid-back restaurant divided into three separate dining areas. The first has beamed ceilings and a traditional vibe, whilst the two other rooms are modern in style and decorated with contemporary canvases. Popular with tourists and locals alike, Wildwood Kitchen is packed for business lunches during the day, and has a more chilled out vibe for afternoon coffees and evening meals. Carboholics will love the hearty Mediterranean menu.

On a family day out in Stratford we decided to have lunch at Wildwood Kitchen because we have eaten here on previous occasions.
The service is exceptional an so was the food.
The childrens menu is great value and the food that my niece had was excellent.
Portions were very good.

The Wildwood kitchen promises much. Sadly, judging from our experience earlier week, it fails to deliver on certain key points.
Something we always look for is the awareness of restaurant staff to diners catching their eye. In this respect, the staff on Wednesday 30/7 seemed oblivious to all attempts to catch their eyes. We had a keen eye on the time, given we had tickets for the nearby RSC Shakespeare production. When we eventually got our main courses, one of our party of 6 continued to wait ... and wait ... and wait to be served. Eventually the waitress served the missing main course, apologising and stating that this would be complimentary because of the delay. This was appreciated an absolutely what was expected from a restaurant that had let down its clientele.
In contrast, the quality of the food was first rate and we'd happily return ... IF we would be certain of swifter, rather more attentive service.
Our recommendation, if you're in a hurry, is to avoid the Wildwood Kitchen.

Had lunch sat in the sun in the outdoor area yesterday! Excellent service, staff chatty and pleasant, food delicious and enough choice and wine menu ample. Outdoor area not the best just because of neighbours kitchen and bins (but having a dog we are used to being in the cheap seats!). Would definitely return.

I wasn't sure whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. But I ended up with 3 because though the food was quite good and enjoyable, a number of elements detracted from it. One is that the menu is very limited. Another Wildwood we went to had specials but they weren't running any at this one on a Friday evening. In particular I always expect Italian restaurants (this one is more Italian- style than authentic) will have a good range of non-meat dishes but there aren't many at all here. The only non-meat pizzas are Margherita and Fiorentina. Also, and this isn't just a criticism of Wildwood, why do restaurants always think we're nostalgic for 1960s Neapolitan wafers by only offering ice cream in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate? Ice cream doesn't go off so it would be possible to keep half a dozen or more flavours. Aside from the food, it isn't pleasant to be seated a yard or so from the toilet. Neither is it pleasant to have a member of staff walk through the restaurant and back carrying a full rubbish bin (isn't there a more discreet route?) Finally, four members of staff walked past our table while we were waiting a very long time to order desserts. They didn't all ignore us, some of them smiled, but eventually I to practically accost one to get our order taken.

My last review was entitled 'Worth The Wait' - but not this time.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch yesterday. We were served our drinks and our order taken, and then waited 60 minutes and still no food. We got up, walked out and went to another restaurant who served us within 20 minutes!

This is my shortest review but I have little more to say except, - if Wildwood are going to accept so many covers that they cannot deliver food within a reasonable timescale then they need to either get more staff in the kitchen or reduce the number of covers. It's simple!
