“Gorgeous view”
Review of The Tower @ RSC

The Tower @ RSC
Reviewed 13 October 2013 via mobile

Should you find yourself at the RSC on at least a relatively clear day, a trip up the tower is lovely. The staff are very helpful offering up information & seem to truly enjoy their jobs. The views are beautiful!

Great deal if you've taken a tour or are an RSC member and can get a ticket for just £1.

You take a lift up and the stairs down which is nice because you get many different perspectives on the view and they have displays in the staircase.

My visit was only about 10-15 minutes but as there was no one else in the Tower at the time I probably could have stayed a bit longer if I'd wanted.

2 people - early week, mid morning - used 2 for 1 offer provided by another activity.

Having taken the lift to the 3rd floor we were greeted by a gentleman and young lady who accompanied us on a second lift trip to the top of the tower. They were very welcoming and friendly, chatting with us as we went. Sass.? (sorry if wrong spelling), the young lady, handed us leaflets containing details of what we may see from this magnificent viewpoint. As it was only 35 mins. or so after opening and rather misty (so virtually no distant views poss.) it was quite quiet, visitor wise. So during the next 15 mins. or so we were able to monopolise Sass. to our great benefit. She proceeded to point out and inform us about things we could see, including much not RSC related. However it was all the knowledge she had about the RSC that enthralled us most. There was a run down of the lifecycle of a production from casting right thru' to leaving SoA and poss. going on tour (quite often abroad).
There followed detail about costumes and where they are made locally, what can be seen around the RSC/Swan site and so very much more. Absolutely fascinating! After a final chat with another friendly lady we proceeded down the stairs, back to the 3rd floor, passing large photo displays (most with famous/star actors in them) of previous productions spreading back over many decades. We would have rated this very good value at full price (currently £2.50 per head) but with the offer it was a bargain! Def. recommended!!!
