“Decent food, reasonable prices”
Reviewed 18 March 2011

We stopped for a bit of a late lunch on a day tour of Stratford and easily found a table. It was busy outside as it was a nice day, but a bit dead inside. We ordered quickly, just sandwiches & the curry of the day, but they came within 15 minutes of ordering. We didn't go in looking for a good selection of lager and ales, but they had a small selection of both.

All in all, they had typical pub grub, and the service was pretty good, but I would recommend it for a lunch as opposed to an evening out sort of pub.

“The Dirty Duck needs to smarten up its act!”
Reviewed 14 March 2011

This is a lovely pub, in a lovely location and promises much, but unfortunately it's hugely dissapointing. FIrstly the pub is run by The Greene King Brewery - if I'd realised this I'd never have stepped foot in the place. A poor selection of beers which included a chilled IPA left me searching the wine lists for something more suitable. We found a nice table and, having perused the uninspiring menu (burgers, hunters chicken, surf 'n' turf... you get the picture), we decided we were too tired to explore any more and would place an order. When we tried they only they had half of what we wanted! Our new order included two starters of chicken liver pate (which one would have presumed would come straight out of the fridge), we had to wait 40 minutes for it, even though the pub wasn't too busy! The quality wasn't great and the portions rather small. My partner and her sister were going to have a prawn and smoked salmon salad, but as they'd run out of salmon, they opted for some extra prawns - I don't think they were banking on a european prawn mountain being dumped on top of their bland, undressed salad. Clearly who ever did this wasn't a chef, just a heating technician! The chips we had as sides weren't fresh, just cheap chips straight out of the freezer (why is it so hard not to cook fresh chips!). Glancing around at other peoples plates it was clear that despite this pubs lovely appearance, it's nothing more than a cheap chain pub with no heart, no character and no passion for the food and drink they serve.

“Terrible food, bad service, expensive for what we got”
Reviewed 23 February 2011

myself and my 2 college colleagues went to the Dirty Duck on Tuesday night 22/2/2011 on the recommendation of a friend. We had booked a table and were shown to it quickly by the floor staff. The table was in a good spot and it was a nice atmosphere with candles etc. on the table and soft lighting. The waiter was a young guy and very helpful and friendly. we ordered drinks and when we checked the menu we ordered our food. One of my friends decided to change her main course and it appeared to be no problem. We ordered a plate for a starter which was for 2/3 people. The garlic/sharing/tearing break was doughy and undercooked. The barbeque dipping sauce was like sticky unset jelly. My friends kebabs were like burnt sausages and tasted weird. I ordered risotto which was a seafood risotto. It was awful, with the salmon perched on top and was like 3 day old rice stuck together with a pink sauce. There was an older guy serving and he obviously knew we werent happy but he never came near us the whole time and when he took our plates away (with a lot of uneaten food on them) he never mentioned it or asked us if our food had been ok. we ordered dessert and he didnt bring mine, when my friend asked him to bring mine he said ' you didnt order one'. He had absolutely no customer service skills!! Our bill came to a costly 73.00 sterling which was all the more annoying as it was CRAP FOOD. We found out after that the specials on the board were 2 for 10.00 which they never advised us about either. We wont be going back there any time again. on the way out the door the young waiter mouthed "sorry" to my friend when we said goodbye............

“Welcoming and comfotable eating place for a family”
Reviewed 19 January 2011

Having not eaten here for a while thought I would give it a go again and booked a table for 3 adults and 2 children. Then read some of the reviews!!! Rather worried as bringing friends but thought it's booked just go. Glad we did. Gently busy as like us lots of pre theatre goers in the restuarant and service and atmosphere great, the young guy who waited on us and the manager couldn't have done more for us and the children in particular were well looked after. Qualirty of food and value very good indeed, restuarant and entrance area very clean and toilets spotless. . Two very minor points guys, smart aprons would improve uniform outlook and some decent coffee would be more than welcome. We wiil be back and bring other friends, tahnks for a lovely visit.

“Miserable staff”

Love the pub. The location is great and it's really cosy. However the food is very average and the staff are far from friendly.
