“AVOID THIS PUB LIKE THE PLAGUE.”
Reviewed 31 August 2011

as Visitors to stratford we had pre booked a table and were looking forwardto our meal .We waited 1 hour for any of the young, cocky unprofessional staff to give us menus or take our order. eventually we were stuffed into a pokey corner of a completey empty conservatory extension. The radio was blaring and the impolite staff were scraping tables across the floors setting up for local clientelle later rthat night. We asked to move back into the bar area which was warmer with more atmosphere. But whenwe tried to order some drinks from a very self congratulatory waiter we were informed that this was the bar , not the restaurant, and we'd have to get our own drinks. We ordered 2 steak pies but he was sorry "guys" the steak pie wasnt available, and by the way, neither were the sausages, pork loin, curry, ham hock etc etc.Later diners had prebooked their meals.it wasn't his fault. So,WE LEFT AS FAST AS WE COULD and went to THE GARRICK INN-with an identical, available menu ,a great atmosphere,a packed resataurant and a MUCH BETTER ATTITUDE.Final comment is to mention that the male toilet was in a disgusting state.Dont pay hard earned cash to be insulted and dissappointed.

“Another example of how restaurants in British tourist towns don’t need to care about their customers, b”
Reviewed 23 August 2011

After an acceptable first course I was served a tiny slice of white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake that tasted like sour milk. When I complained and returned my uneaten sliver of £5.69 pudding I initially received a sincere apology and was offered a refund. However after speaking to the chef the ‘supervisor’ suddenly rescinded his offer and became rude and dismissive. There are plenty of other restaurants in Stratford, service like that is completely unnecessary, but unfortunately some tourist towns are like that. I hate to think what foreign visitors think of British hospitality when faced with discourtesy like that.

“Ideally Located Restaurant for pre/after dinner for RSC performances”
Reviewed 11 August 2011

Our second visit with party of eight friends for pre RSC performance early dinner.
Well received by staff, menus came quickly and pre dinner drinks no delay.
Efficient and pleasant staff who are obviously used to getting diners through in time for evening RSC performance..
Lamb Shank,BBQ Ribs&Gammon Steaks all excellent but Chicken Korma & Chill Con Carne a bit meagre..Home made sweets superb and Cheeseboard great but cheese sufficient for two persons...Good buzzy atmosphere and we were made to feel welcome
Good all round experience and a revisit planned as its good for groups as well as couples....Considered good value.

“Dont bother”
Reviewed 8 August 2011

Living not far from the Dirty Duck I occasionally give it another chance and every time it is always disappointing. The situation of the pub is great overlooking the gardens next to the river. What is lacking is service and a real choice of beer. Every time I have been in there the staff have been offhand and best and downright rude at worst. I think there must be a school for bad barstaff out back. Perhaps they learn from the indifferent management. The staff only seem to be animated when they can suck up to some RSC actor!

i cannot comment on the food as have never tried it, but lovers of fine ales and good service should avoid.
