Attraction details
Owner description: St Johns House, a Jacobean Mansion located in Warwick, has a history spanning almost 900 years. The land on which the current building now stands was originally used as a hospital in the 12th century. The current house has been used as a private residence, a school and administrative offices of the War Department in the early 20th century. Latterly the building was bought by Warwickshire County Council and turned into a Museum, which was opened to the public in 1960. Please note, from April 1st 2017 the Museum will not be available for public visits, but by pre-arranged schools and groups only. The Museum will be open to the general public on Heritage Open Weekends. On the first floor of the house is The Royal Warwickshire Regiment of Fusiliers Museum, visit their website for opening hour details

“Fleeting visit”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

Sadly I only had a short time due to visiting after a day at work and close to closing time. What I did manage to see was excellent and I will return for a longer look next time I am in the area. Very atmospheric building, definitely worth a visit.

“Tardis-like in what's on offer”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

They pack a heck of a lot of history into St. John's House. The Royal Fusiliers museum upstairs offers more than just a pile of weapons and pictures of Monty. Of course, these are there, but much more is on offer. Try dressing up in military clothing, look at various centuries' memorabilia. The staff are thrilled to tell stories to bring history alive. Combined with the school room and Warwickshire social history downstairs, this is a great place to while away a few hours. Don't forget to make a donation to each of the museums!

“two in one”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

St Johns House contain 2 museums. the ground floor has a collection of items reflecting the lives of Warwickshire people over the past 300 years whilst the second floor contain the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum telling the history of the regiment up to the present time. Admission to both museums is free but a suitable donation is appreciated . Both museums are small but contain an awful lot of information well worth a visit.

“Well woth visiting”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

The children were bored and fancied something local. We parked in a council car park and walked 5 mins through to the museum. A free museum with option obviously for donations. Saw an old school room - old(er) items dolls clothing toys even found an old Brownie Uniform from the 70's. Upstairs to the War remembrance - a little history for the children, medal, clothing to try on. Quite a lot to do and see depending whether you want to read everything. not sure on toilet facilities although I know for school trips there is a toilet block so presume all visitors get access. They do various things some weekends if local best to visit website and so for or search the museum. We only spent a maximum of 2 hours
