Both my wife and I live locally to Warwick and we have discussed whether to Trip Advise about Micatto as it is so good we would not want to be turned away if they were to busy. But, this new restaurant experiece is something very different and very, very special.
I spent most of my younger life in northern spain where the "tapas" bars are a way of life and have a atmosphere that just cannot be repeated. So, to take this concept and mix it with the very best of Italian food (anywhere) is something to behold. Angela and I popped in last week as I have parked outside a few times and wondered what this new restaurant was about....there has been no launch night....no advertising but it was packed. WOW ! now we know why. You walk in and Eleanor welcomes you and explains what the restaurant is about.
At this point, I will explain my view....there are "normal tables" both ground and first floors, There is a very nice large bar which is "L" shaped with fixed high stools where you can drink and eat the Italian tapas. The best part is the section which is open to the kitchen. This experience is fascinating. So you understand, the idea is that you can order as many Italian dishes as you like. The dishes are "starter" size and you order for yourself or to share.
We have now been twice this week and we will probably go back at least 2 or 3 times over Christmas, especially when our Daughter returns from London (to show off our new fab restaurant in Warwick)
The menu is just unbelivable (and changes most days) Quick review (this week)....the calamari fritti with black alioli - cannot tell you how good, the risotto with toasted hazenuts and asparagus - cannot describe, the fritatta with potato and spinach (with a soft centre) the best I have ever eaten ANYWHERE. We had the the pumpkin raviolli with pesto and large grilled tiger prawns this afternoon and I cannot tell you how fantastic this was.
The prices are very, very reasonable. If you go in REALLY hungry, order food one or two at a time as the portions are a good size to share and order more as you go.
The drinks prices are also very reasonable.
The staff are all Italian and are fanatical about the service, the food (watch from the chefs bar area)
I just wish I had come up with the idea.
See you all there I hope. Please ask if Nik and Ang are in (we probably will be !)
By the way....this is really an independant review...we have no connection with this restaurant apart from thar we have our favorite seats at the bar.
ENJOY - please - Regards Nik & Angela.
