We stayed during Crufts. The owners go out of their way to help you. They helped find local places and sorted taxis for us. The breakfast was a full English with all the trimmings and was fantastic. The rooms are clean and tidy with plenty of tea and coffee. There were plenty of local restaurants and also not far from the town centre if you want to go shopping. We decided after a hard day at Crufts to have takeaway at the Guest House. There is a large TV room downstairs where plates and cutlery were provided for us. Will stay again. This is the personal touch that we like.

We booked two nights, family room at Yardley guest House but had to cancel due to illness. The guest house still took the full price of the two nights stay even though we rang them as soon as we knew. When appproached by phone about this the proprietor was stroppy and unhelpful. I would have been happy to have payed a cancellation fee, but full price is in my view excessive.

I needed to book a room to avoid the snow. The owner (due to shortage of rooms) was kind enough to allow the three bedroomed en-suite £15 cheaper for the two nights I was there. That was the only concession though.

The room was up several flights of stairs in the attic; clean and tidy - decor old. Nothing particularly special. TV had a digibox which wasn't working due to the terrible signal so I was glad that I had my laptop and TV dongle otherwise, I'd have been bored.
The en-suite was clean, no mat. Shower door was a bit of a job to open/close.Though there was some noise coming from the guest next door, it wasn't enough to inflict on my night's sleep.
What did disturb my sleep was the cold. The duvet was just wide enough for the bed so, with someone actually under it, whisps of cold air soon became apparent. Despite having two radiators, the room was chilly.

The snow cleared better than expected so I called the owner at 11am to say I might check out. I was told that'd be fine but I would still be charged for the second night, with no compromise. I reluctantly went back for my second night's stay.

I found the room colder. Checking the radiators they seemed warm enough but the bedding was cold to touch. Went out for dinner then back to warm up. I found (after an hour) I still had my boots on and my feet were freezing, so I told the owners about it, and was told it was because people had been taking showers (despite the place now having less people in it as several rooms had been vacated during the day), and that the immersion heater would be turned on and left on overnight. I returned to my room, and realised the prospect of another night's cold sleep didn't bode well. I checked out at 21:30h, and went home.

It is in a fairly good spot for accessing Birmingham. The local shops are not partcularly good for eating though as the choice is extremely limited, and there aren't any utensils for eating in the rooms though I dare say the owners would provide if required.

It's probably better to stay in the summer rather than winter. I will not be staying at this establishment, I would rather stay at home.
