“Somewhat disappointing”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Stayed here on our way back from Italy via Birmingham Airport. We booked late and got a deal. I would not have been happy to pay full price. The first room was tired and the carpet grubby. Due to recent electrical work in the room which had not been tidied up properly we were then upgraded to a penthouse room. This was a huge 2 bed apartment with views of the city. It was great for space, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchenette well equipped. However, it has the feel of an office block - the carpets are very thin and stained, the pure white paintwork a bit marked, and some of the dining chairs had seen better days. See pictures. Additionally the sofa was SO uncomfortable and not in a great position to actually view the very large TV. I'd say if you love ultra modern and lot of space over comfort go for it, but we wont be staying again. We got a deal so weren't too unhappy - but if I'd paid full price for the penthouse I'd have been upset. The girl on reception (Karen) who sorted out our booking was lovely however.

Hi Wilsonka

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

We are very sorry that you had to be moved during your stay (we had an TV engineer in during the day and unfortunately we hadn’t rechecked the apartment before your arrival, totally down to human error).

We are working through a refurbishment of all apartments, not a quick task as you can imagine, but we are working as fast as availability will allow).

We are replacing all of the dining chairs at the moment, this is due to be completed by mid-July.

I think with the sofas it really does come down to personal choice, lots of guests really enjoy lounging on them, but we accept that not everything is for everyone.

Sorry your stay wasn’t everything you expected, it is great to here you enjoyed the extra space and the beds. And Karen sends her thanks for your kind words.

Do let me know if there is anything you need in the future.

With best wishes
Gavin

We use this place every year for attending a trade show at the NEC. The rooms are spacious apartment style rooms with kitchenettes. They are located right off the Birmingham New St tube stop in the trendy city centre. There are many great restaurants within walking distance.

I only stayed here for one night, but will be using Staying Cool for all future business trips to the area after a delightful stay. After a busy day travelling/working, this was the perfect option for me - relaxed and helpful staff, nice touches to the apartment, fantastic views of Birmingham, central location near shops & finally: Sky Sports! I had my own Sky box in my apartment, so could catch up on the footi without having to venture to a pub. Thank you!

HI christophert_1307

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. It sounds like we may have converted you to serviced apartments (which is excellent news).

We've recently upgraded the SKY package to ensure that we had access to even more sports and movie channels - it's been very popular. It is great to be able to pick up some beers and enjoy them in front of your own TV.

If you would like us to set up a business account for you, give me a shout and we'll get that arranged for you.

Thanks again.
Very best wishes
Gavin

Staying Cool at the Rotunda does exactly what it says in the title. On the 20th floor with floor to ceiling glass doors in the lounge and both bedrooms the penthouse views are awesome. It's a fantastic experience to see the City change from day to night while still having the peace of your own private and luxurious sanctuary. This apartment - hotel has everything you need for a fabulous stay and just a short lift ride away all the shops and restaurants of the Bullring. It's in walking distance of New Street station and just a 10 minute train journey to the LG arena and NEC center, great for watching a band then returning to living the 'high' life. we went to see the Prince concert and was back in the apartment within 20 minutes with a cold glass of wine and a chance to sit and watch the City lights it was the perfect end to a perfect day. The beds are comfy and both bedrooms are ensuite, great for families. From the Sky TV to the lovely coffee maker everything has been thought of to make your stay perfect. The staff are friendly and helpful, the apartment has everything you would ever need to eat in or just chill out but the views have to be seen to be believed. I loved the Rotunda and can't wait for an opportunity to stay again.

Room Tip: Room 2000 overlooks New Street Station. We loved it because there was so much to watch, loads going...

Hi daisiemay

We're all still grinning, just from the title of your review!

It's great that you got the full experience of travelling out to the NEC and seeing how close we are really are to all of the top offering in Birmingham.

I believe the Prince concert was amazing too.

It really doesn't get much better than sitting with a glass of something cold and watching the sun go down and the lights come up.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post and If there is anything we can so for you in the future, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Very best wishes
Gavin

We had a brilliant night in the iconic Rotunda building thanks to Staying Cool. It was cheaper than the (reasonably priced) hotel we used last time we were in Birmingham.

When we arrived we were delighted to find we'd been upgraded to a penthouse apartment - and it was just fabulous. The rooms were great, the kitchen really well equipped, the bathrooms had lovely toiletries and the beds really comfortable. But the view from the huge balcony was the highlight - it was just breathtaking. We could see right into New Street Station (and hear the train announcements - which gave it a nice urban feel) and about 25 miles over the city.

As we were arriving pretty late we pre ordered a meal to be left in the apartment. I think we paid about £44 and included all the ingredients to make a lovely meal of sea bass and fresh vegetables (complete with chilli sauce and butter for the mashed sweet potatoes) and meringues, fresh cream, pomegranates and blackberries to make Eton Mess. Within that cost we also got a lovely bottle of red wine.

The kitchen already had a Illy Espresso machine (and a plunger with fresh coffee), fresh milk and a choice of Dorset cereals, lovely clipper teas and even oranges (there is a juicer too)
as well as olive oil, salt and pepper. Such a refreshing change in an aparthotel - you genuinely could cook if you were more organised!

The service was also really good - we had a really warm welcome and Raph was right up on the 20th floor within minutes when we couldn't get the TV to work!

Obviously we got a lot for our money because we were upgraded - but I feel pretty confident that the room we booked would have been good too. (it came with all the extras as far as I remember).

Thank you Raph and all the team at staying cool - you deserve your good reviews and we will definitely stay here again next time we are in Birmingham.
Fee and Alistair

Room Tip: fingers crossed you get upgraded - the view is fab!

Hi feebc

Thanks for such a fab review - I'm so pleased you enjoyed the Cooking Cool, we're just about to launch our summer menus, we tested them last week and they are brilliant.

Raph is very new to Staying Cool and couldn't be more chuffed he got a mention - he really is a great addition to our Guest Relations team.

We hope to see you again soon and if I can help with anything in the meantime, please don't hesitate to let me know.

See you soon.

Best
