“A room with the wow factor.”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

I must admit that this is probably about as much I have spent on a hotel room, apart from in New York, but it was worth the money. I spent 1 night in a penthouse apartment (no 2000) with my partner for a birthday treat and we both loved it. The view from this apartment was outstanding, right over the main sites of Birmingham. It was right over the top of New Street station and looked down New Street. I did request a view over the train station, not that I am a train spotter, but it is the best direction to see the sights. It is amazing to have such a huge balcony, stretching around about a 6th of the building, so the panorama was even bigger that expected. It was so nice to have outside space 20 floors up overlooking our 2nd city.
The apartment itself was very well stocked, nice to have loads of tea, coffee, milk, oranges, breakfast cereals, etc. It had a really light airy feel to it with ceiling to floor windows. I didn't want to pull the curtains, so I left them open at night for a really strange experience, although I did wake up at 2.00am thinking it was daytime due to the amount of light!
Check in was 3.00pm and checkout 12.00, we made the most of the time in the apartment. There were 2 bedrooms, so it would be ideal for 2 couples and the price a little easier to handle. To be honest, even for me and my other half I thought it was worth the cost for a special treat.
Parking was about £9 for our stay and easy to find and not too far to walk with out bags. The guy on reception was extremely friendly and helpful.
So all in all this was a really special night, it was a birthday treat and it went down really well. Champagne on the balcony at night as the rain poured down was quite special, yes it is covered so you don't get wet! Earlier in the day you could catch the sun on the balcony before the weather changed for the worse.
Oh, and the beds are very comfy, it was difficult to decide which of the bedroom to use! The TV is great, with SKY HD, so I could watch the world cup footy. The WiFi was also handy. Ther was a bath in one en suite and a shower in the other.
I am sure there are things that I have missed, but we had a great stay, would love to go back. The view and huge balcony make is a special stay. Birmingham is also a great pace to explore.

Room Tip: Penthouse 2000 for views over New street and the main sights of Birmingham. Also get the afternoon s...

Hi cornelius1971

Your review really was a pleasure to read, many thanks for taking the time to post it for us.

We're all really pleased you picked to stay with us for your special occasion.

The from your apartment is also my favourite, there is so much going on at the station at the moment, it get to see how much is changes on a day to day basis.

The balcony is a real treat (especially with a glass of champagne).

We would love to see you both again in the future (all guests get a 10% returning discount too).

Do let me know if there is anything else you need.

Many thanks once again.

Very best wishes
Gavin

OMG..... What a fantastic find A little difficult to find if you do not know the area, as there is no vehicle access, it is smack in the middle of the new pedestrianisation of that side of the city. You have to park in the Bull Ring Car Park level 1 West Mall, take the lift to level 3 walk out from there towards the bull statue and there it is in front of your eyes in all it`s glory, the iconic Round building, the Rotunda is centrally located apartments right in the heart of Birmingham City Centre, stands out like a shining beacon landmark this Grade 2 listed 1960`s building transformation of the building completed in 2008 has been put to a new use that will preserve it for decades to come.

We stayed for 2 nights 3 days in a two bed mini studio on the 17th floor apartment 1701. Great spectacular views overlooking Birmingham and far as the eye could see, which look even more amazing at night, This apartment has everything you need, well designed, spacious and including a Washing Machine, Dish Washer, good size under counter Fridge and a Freezer, Microwave, and Juicer.

Very clean and quite spacious lounge and bedroom, great bed and good size in both rooms. with a beautiful stream line kitchen with welcome groceries provided, Cereal, Fair-trade Tea, & Mint Tea, Fair-trade, Coffee for Percolator & Illy Espresso Coffee Machine, Fresh Milk, Sugar, Oranges to juice, Virgin Oil, Balsamic Vinegar
.
My only minor quibble was with the bathroom, the shower had no curtain or proper door and water got everywhere! However saying that, it was a good power shower, with lovely toiletries provided and beautiful white Towelling Dressing Gowns, very large soft bath towels.

Would definitely return and recommend. Front desk staff Simon and Karen were lovely, Simon is an absolute treasure so helpful and friendly!

Now my big gripe, this is not a disability friendly building, why People across a wide range of disabilities were not consulted when designing & upgrading I shall never know. If you can walk it`s not to bad, but wheelchair user might have some problems. I can only surmise it is really aimed at the attraction/tourist able body orientated.

It was a little on the expensive side, but after our stay, I would say it was worth every penny!
If your looking for something a little more interesting than the standard hotel room this is it..

Room Tip: The higher the better, go for a studio or if you can afford it Penthouse apartments they have balcon...

Hi Timeoutqueen

Many thanks for such a lovely and detailed review (I know lots of travellers that use reviews when making choices and yours really will help).

Simon and Karen pass on their thanks for your lovely words.

We have tried to do as much as possible (within the restrictions of the buildings layout) to help less able-bodied guests. We have also listed full access statements on our website, so that travellers can make the most informed choices booking. As we know the smaller Mini apartment isn't great for a wheelchair, we always try to upgrade wheelchair users to larger apartment with more space.

We really hope to see you again in the future and If I can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks once again.

Very best wishes
Gavin

Working away in Birmingham for 6 months the Rotunda soon became a home from home. The staff were so welcoming and helpful I really miss them now I'm not there every week. Staying one or two nights on a regular basis I think I probably stayed in all the different styles of suites/apartments and loved them all. Clean, spacious (even the smaller ones), modern and the luxury touches from the bedlinen, bathroom toiletries, sky package were great. The essentials in the kitchen were a godsend, the last thing we want to do before retiring for the night is find a shop to buy milk, tea, coffee, cereal etc. Staying Cool provide everything you need for a luxury bed and breakfast, the oranges and juicer provided were so good I've had to buy one for home! Places like this make working away from home bearable, even my teenage son loved it when he joined me for his pre Uni shopping trip! Congratulations to you all and I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else when in Birmingham.

We stayed on the 18th floor in a mini overlooking New St station. It is an open plan studio with plenty of space. Lots of nice touches - pod coffee machine, fresh oranges and juicer to make juice from, little kitchen, fresh milk, Dorset cereals in the room. Sky TV with movies, sports etc in the room. Takes few < 5 mins to get to New St so handy for NEC without having to stay at NEC.

Hi boredagain

It's great to hear you found the location so central. We are getting more and more guests choosing to stay in the city centre now, rather than the NEC. It really does give the feeling and leave work and experience the real Birmingham.

Many thanks for your kind words.

We hope to see you again soon.

We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment on the 17th floor for one night. Easy, pleasant check-in, spacious nicely decorated apartment with great views at night. The apartments are a couple of steps from the Bullring shopping centre (that's where we parked the car) so also very conveniently located. Would stay again if visiting Birmingham - highly recommended!

Stayed here when visiting Birmingham on business. It was a great room. Modern, comfortable and fabulous views. The staff members that I met were friendly, helpful and very pleasant to deal with. I would stay here again, especially if they have special offers on.

Amazing views, super comfy bed, clean! bathroom and kitchen. Great espresso machine and a treat to have refrigerated juicing oranges and a juicing machine. Customer service was pretty excellent too. A great place to hang out with friends and a super location to everything in the city centre. The only minuses: stained/dirty furniture and doors, worn wallpaper, and a little flaking paint-- so if it's true they're refreshing the rooms, that's good because it's a little needed.

Would recommend though!

Room Tip: Not for people who are afraid of heights-- also not for families with small children (at least not t...

Hi dromomania4evr

Thanks for taking the time to leave your review.

We're pleased you had a great stay.

We are still working through our refurbishment schedule and going as quick as availability allows. The summer months are quieter in the city, so will allow us to speed up the process.

The windows really are perfectly safe for children of all sizes, we look after lots of families who tell us they really do feel happy with the windows open.

Do let me know if you plan to stay again and I'll ensure you get to see one of the refurbished apartments on your next visit.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Best wishes
Gavin
