Have stayed at Woodbrooke three times now, and have found it tranquil, welcoming and warmly hospitable every time.
The rooms are comfortable, clean and there are organic products in both en suite and shared bathrooms. Even light sleepers will find it easier to rest here, given how peaceful the environment is.
Food is locally sourced, often home grown and provision is the most generous of anywhere I have stayed. Special diets are catered for. Meals are imaginative and nutritious.
The grounds are beautifully maintained, and inviting to walk around. Like the building itself, they have been made as accessible as possible, within the constraints of this being an historic property.
Volunteer staff will do their utmost to ensure that all guests have the most comfortable stay possible, and will endeavour to accommodate any requests.
The lounge area is kept well stocked with newspapers, and boasts a patio area where guests can relax and take in views of the lake and gardens.
As previous reviewers have remarked, much thought has gone into everything at Woodbrooke, such as its environmentally - friendly facilities, in an attempt to reflect Quaker values and to ensure guests feel 'at home'.
A warm and restful atmosphere is created within this unique property by caring and thoughtful staff.

Lovely venue in acres of gardens including a lake. And this is in the middle of Birmingham. The food is really good - freshly cooked with loads of choices and the people working there are all really helpful and caring. My en-suite single room had all the facilities I needed including internet.

Dear Martha, We are particularly pleased that you found our staff helpful, and thank you for taking the trouble to feed back on what we know many people enjoy about Woodbrooke – its grounds and its food. We look forward to welcoming you back at some point.

I was here for a work conference, and it was excellent. Wonderful hospitality, good quality food, gorgeous grounds and gardens. Their newly refurbished lounge is very special, and the rooms were clean and well appointed. Small details like vases of flowers from their gardens topped it all off.

Hi. Thank you for taking the trouble to submit such a positive review of Woodbrooke – hope we can be of service to you again at some point in future. The flowers are arranged by Quaker volunteers and I’m sure they would be happy to know their efforts are noticed and appreciated!

Really excellent venue, which gave the impression that everybody on the staff was bothered that, whoever you were, you would be comfortable and happy. The food, rooms, grounds and general facilities were top rate, and the owners seemed to have thought of everything. In fact, I felt as though the people in charge treated the venue as though they themselves would be happy to stay there. And they didn't make a big song and dance about it either. So refreshing to see human values trumping corporate ones. I like the way they took sustainability seriously, and used fair trade and local products as much as possible. If I had one complaint it was that my shower stared running cold after only a few minutes: there was a request in the cubicle that users use as little water as possible, but no indication that sanctions would be applied to make sure they did, and it would have helped to have known that!

Hi Andrew, Thanks for all your feedback, which is both useful and pleasing – particularly what you said about our staff and Quaker volunteers. Please accept our apologies about your shower experience, and I would like to assure you that it wasn’t supposed to run cold after a few minutes. The notice is there simply to encourage guests to think of their consumption of water, and it reflects Woodbrooke’s own commitment to the environment – we wouldn’t want to give guests the impression that we actually ration hot water! It seems you encountered a problem with the shower in this case. Hope to see you back here soon.

Woodbrooke is an extraordinary place. The first thing you see when you arrive is a doormat that has "Welcome Friend" on it. This sets the tone. Woddbrooke is warm welcoming and inclusive. The buildings and grounds are lovely with a calm and peace you need to experience to fully appreciate. The Friends in Residence are always there to help. Dont get me started on the food- delicious, with imaginative vegetarian options and fruit and vegetables from their own gardens. Hot drinks are readily available and even things like hot water bottles can be found!
I have been to Woodbrooke in conjunction with some of their courses and have found it replenishing and healing (to the extent that my family have commented).
It is a shame to list it as a B&B- it is so very much more.
PS there is little better than walking the labyrinth barefoot in the summer..
