“Great staff, average Travelodge”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2014

Must begin by saying the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming - something that makes a difference. The Travelodge itself is updated to the new Travelodge look, but its still a bit too tatty, with small rooms and poor natural light etc. If arriving late, it is not the safest of locations, but ok during the day/early evenings. It is clean, cheap and ok for the price - not a first choice, but would be prepared to stay again if nothing else available or within budget.

We visited many of the attractions (museum, library, canals, etc) just a short walk from this hotel. The staff were nice, the room was a good size and clean. However, it was sparse. No bedside tables, minimal tea/coffee/soap/towels although we didn't need or request extras. Fine for us as we were only sleeping there and didn't eat there or hang around. We both got a good nights sleep and that's our main concern.

Room Tip: hard to say but the 400s seemed fine.

Hi chaps.
Went in a few days ago - was a weekday. Checked in with the wife in tow and was met by two rather pleasant chaps who were a bit scruffy - understand they might be tired - but they did help indeed, and smiles all the way.
Asked for a quiet room - got a quiet room. Good stuff. Asked for an iron and ironing board which was delivered up to the room too.
Room was clean, quiet and OK. Bathroom was clean and the water flow / pressure in the shower was something that can be improved on - was slow even at 11 p.m.!
Otherwise - all good but the TV had a grainy image - not too bothered as did not check in to watch TV !
Checked out the next day - all well.
Would I stay again - sure
Would I recommend - don't see why not. The call centre is generally rubbish but the staff at the hotels appear to have life left inside them.

For the price it is a clean room plenty of pillows on bed. Bathroom disappointed only in the fact there was a bar of soap, no shampoo. Cannot comment on food as dined out. Staff were courteous and helpful.

The lift needs the insertion of your keycard to call it to ground floor. No matter how many times I tried I failed. Staff member said there is a knack to it and proceeded to convince me he didn't have it either as the lift refused to budge. Perhaps the knack is to use the stairs!

First time stayed in this Travelodge with my friends on Saturday night room was nice and clean. when we checkedin reception staff was very smiley and welcoming especially the night staff. he was very friendly provide me useful information and directions to nearby clubbing area booked a taxi for us. He was very energetic bring extra bedding for us in our room around 3am in the morning though he was working alone on busy Saturday night handling reception and barcafe. Excellent customer service by him.

Regards,
Sophia

For the price paid the hotel is great value for money. We only stayed one night for a concert at the NIA (seemed like lots of people were doing the same).
Staff were very friendly and the hotel comfortable and clean.
Located a short walk to the NIA it was great for the evening, be aware walking to the Bullring and centre shops is a little further.
The only issues we had were on trying to find the hotel and like a lot of other people we gave up trying to call the lift with the door key and used the stairs instead (seems you have to swipe the card and call the lift in a certain order for it to work)

Stayed in a few Travelodge hotels and the last two i have stayed in including this one has put me off. I think there are better budget hotels for the same price, namely premier Inn, much better quality and comfort and more for your money.

Staff were friendly when we checked in. Our room was extremely cold and the heater wasn't on at all, when we did put it on it wasn't much warmer. The shower was not very powerful and leaked on the floor.

Breakfast was terrible, bread and croissants were stale, the beans were dried up, bacon and sausage were cold, milk was bad, dirty cutlery, no serviettes, toilets were dirty, the list goes on.

When we told the receptionist when we checked out, we were told the manager would contact us, who never did, i had to chase. I spoke and dealt with head office in the end from there lack of help from the hotel Manager.

We are sorry to learn of your poor experience Leanne K and your disappointment with the temperatures in your room. We can confirm that in the interest of climate change our heaters will be turned off prior to your arrival, we also do provide a number of spare blankets and duvets at reception should our guests need them for extra warmth. Our Bar café staff are fully trained on preparing our to a great standard and ensure all breakfast items are readily available for our customers, so it is regrettable that the service fell below the standards we would expect on this occasion. When a guest leaves their contact details at reception we would have expected a phone call to be followed up in order to resolve so we are truly sorry to learn this did not happen. We will be sure to pass on your comments to the hotel management team so that they can be aware of the feedback you have left and the improvements which are needed.
