We stayed on a Bank Holiday Monday night, the room was great - clean, comfy and the bathroom v hygienic. We thought it may have been a bit noisey being centrally located but no probs. Great shower. Breakfast was adequate - no fruit or yoghurt - but great room!

New improved beds and bedding, and great location for getting to the show we were in Birmingham for at the NIA. Great value rooms for a one night stay. My experience with the breakfast was terrible but I understand that every day is different, and I believe that the staff were caught on the hop because people turned up too early, not realizing that breakfast is later on a bank holiday. When I asked about the wherabouts of any bacon I was very rudely informed it would be about 5 minutes, but by the time it arrived half cooked the sausage and egg had run out. We had to ask for glasses for the juice as well as for bread & butter. As an advertised "all you can eat" breakfast it was very disappointing and there are plenty of places to eat in Birmingham for a lot less money. If I had not booked the breakfast I would have had a great stay, so the brekky spoilt it for me, and I would stay here again, but I would have breakfast elsewhere.

Let me start by saying that I have stayed in Travelodge's previously but not this one.

What is going for it
1 It is inexpensive, if sparse.
2 The bed was comfortable
3 Central location for NIA, ICC and town but down back street.

Unfortunately
The first floor corridor and lift smelled awful. It was like a sweaty men's changing room, and the smell seemed to get more pungent over the time we were there (1 night). It permeated into the bedroom, although the door held most of it back.

Maintenance lacking.. shower head broken, toilet groaned when flushed, extractor wasn't working and the bathroom light flickered.

Breakfast.... continental consisted of toast, and cereal.. No croissants or muffins etc., even though they were advertised. Main full English was "cooked to order" as hotel wasn't busy. This seemed to mean reheated sausages (cooked, cooled, wrinkled and then probably microwaved, but to a hard outer shell. Suspect same happened with the bacon.

So it was cheap, but so are other chains, that do a better job.

Would I stay again. Sadly no, because the location an price are good. Hamilton by Hilton is a far better choice if discounted. Would I eat there again. Absolutely not.

Room Tip: Take your own chair and side table. You won't find much in the room other than a bed and one pla...

The Travelodge Newhall Street, Birmingham is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the NIA and Sea Life Aquarium. The hotel was quiet, very clean and the reception staff were very helpful. Good value for money and would recommend it.

Must begin by saying the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming - something that makes a difference. The Travelodge itself is updated to the new Travelodge look, but its still a bit too tatty, with small rooms and poor natural light etc. If arriving late, it is not the safest of locations, but ok during the day/early evenings. It is clean, cheap and ok for the price - not a first choice, but would be prepared to stay again if nothing else available or within budget.

We visited many of the attractions (museum, library, canals, etc) just a short walk from this hotel. The staff were nice, the room was a good size and clean. However, it was sparse. No bedside tables, minimal tea/coffee/soap/towels although we didn't need or request extras. Fine for us as we were only sleeping there and didn't eat there or hang around. We both got a good nights sleep and that's our main concern.

Room Tip: hard to say but the 400s seemed fine.

Hi chaps.
Went in a few days ago - was a weekday. Checked in with the wife in tow and was met by two rather pleasant chaps who were a bit scruffy - understand they might be tired - but they did help indeed, and smiles all the way.
Asked for a quiet room - got a quiet room. Good stuff. Asked for an iron and ironing board which was delivered up to the room too.
Room was clean, quiet and OK. Bathroom was clean and the water flow / pressure in the shower was something that can be improved on - was slow even at 11 p.m.!
Otherwise - all good but the TV had a grainy image - not too bothered as did not check in to watch TV !
Checked out the next day - all well.
Would I stay again - sure
Would I recommend - don't see why not. The call centre is generally rubbish but the staff at the hotels appear to have life left inside them.
