My visit started with a smile from the receptionist and ended with the cheerful breakfast waitress asking when I'd be back.
In between: 3 nights (at £29) in a quiet, spotless room with a comfortable bed. Fantastic staff, etc.... I don't need to repeat all the other reviewers' compliments.
I paid £22 per night extra for the Meal Deal - full breakfast and 3-course dinner taken in their Beefeater pub/restaurant. Dinner was from a reduced menu but the portions certainly weren't, neither was the quality of the food. (I particularly recommend the chargrilled salmon.) Even when rushed off their feet, the staff still managed to 'look after you' - nothing was too much trouble.
At breakfast, the cooked course is brought to you. They bring whatever you order so if you expect 2 (or more) of anything, you ask for it, though they always offer to bring you more. Just one minor gripe: the breakfast coffee out of the self-service pot was weak. (Tea is DIY.)
Big car park, but shared with the Beefeater and TGI Friday, so arriving at the busiest eating-out times could be awkward.
Excellent public transport - buses every few minutes to the city centre, but to two different locations: No.9 to Colmore Row (by Snow Hill Stn) and No.120 to Commercial Street (10 mins walk to New Street Stn). Plenty more but these two are the most frequent services.
From outside the hotel there are regular buses to 'Doodlay', for the excellent Black Country 'Living' Museum - I only saw half of it so I'm going back again. And no guesses as to where I'll be staying.
