“BBC Good Food Show/Gardeners World Live”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

My husband and I had a wonderful day at the Good Food Show/Gardeners World, NEC Birmingham. We planned to pack a lot into the day to get the most from our visit.
We started at 8.30am with a tour of a few of the show gardens and some of the exhibitors. The cost for this was £10. I enjoyed the brief talks from the designers. It was interesting to understand the concepts behind the garden design. It's good to ask questions and view the gardens without the crowds. Following the tour we spent time in the RHS marque followed by a coffee in the RHS café.
We then went into the Good Food Show to attend book signing by Tom Kerridge. Had my picture taken with him (hurrah). Well organised process.
Had lunch in the Good Food Kitchen. Service very good. Food ok. It was a nice to experience, but not sure that I would do it again. Cost for two course meal and 2 glasses of wine £60.
Attended two sessions in Super theatre both very good and funny. Tickets have your seat numbers so you get a feel to where you are sitting. We were in block A which has a good view of stage. The large screens also provide additional viewing. Seating not the most comfortable, but the sessions only last about 30 minutes so its manageable for this short period of time.
The usual opportunity to test out products was good fun and always results in spending money, but we have learnt from experience and buy only what we really need (and some more!)
Bought some lovely food, pans and plants.
We left at throwing out time 6pm. To finish our day we took the opportunity to stay overnight at the Hilton Metropole, just over 1/2mile away. Had a lovely evening after such a busy day.
The only very small negative observation from our visit was that there seemed to be more razzmatazz and energy paid to the good food show rather than gardeners world live. It didn't seem to be balanced.
All in all though a great day out. Learnt lots about what to do in my garden and got some great recipes and tips.

A great day out and had photo taken with Mary Berry. The VIP experience was definitely worth the money.

Event was v.good and v.well organised.£10 car park charge bit steep with no option or alternative parking. Must have taken thousands if not million! Would prefer to have given my £10 as donation to a charity

“BBC Good Food Show / BBC Gardeners World Live.”

Thoroughly enjoyed our family day out at Birmingham's NEC. Aside from the wonderful food/drink products on sale, including cheese's, sausages, vegetarian produce, oils, pickles & preserves, fudge, chocolate, ice cream, gelato, popcorn, wines, gin, vodka, liqueurs & beer, there are many options for those with specific dietary requirements such as Gluten & Lactose intolerant. There are many companies present selling kitchen equipment such as food mixers, blenders, knives etc. The cookery demonstrations are great, giving you the opportunity to see top chefs showing their skills & recipes. There are book signing opportunities throughout the day. I was extremely pleased to obtain the very lovely Lisa Faulkner's autograph, John Torode's & the extremely gorgeous James Martin. The Super theatre cookery show was absolutely brilliant with James Martin, who was incredibly amusing as he produced 3 delectable looking dishes.
The gardening show was also really great. The floral displays in the RHS marquee were truly magnificent. There was an array of spectacular plants, flowers & shrubs for sale. There was a vast choice of gardening equipment, including decorative items. The wooden gazebos & various garden structures were very impressive. There were expert gardener's talks, including Joe Swift. The show gardens were fantastic. A must visit for all garden enthusiasts & novices too.
