We stayed for 1 night and others said, on arrival check in is slightly confusing as it's in the bar area.
The bar is really funky but have to say the price of drinks is pretty expensive.
The room was clean, big and simple and the bathroom seemed ok,however the idea of a shower wet room is a good one but there is no "lip" so it's pretty obvious where the water runs to ie the bottom of the bathroom door was wrecked from water damage. Also the plug in the sink would not move, so we couldn't let any water out and so had to just leave dirty water in but mentioned it on leaving.
On coming back at 1am, the key card to the room didn't work but reception got it sorted for us.
Breakfast is lovely, had to wait 15 minutes for a table as it was busy but there was loads of choice and in line with a malmaison breakfast.
For the money, it's worth it, especially for the breakfast but to find it has higher reviews than the malmaison is a surprise, as the rooms are far better but i suppose you have to pay that bit extra.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for posting a review of your stay with us at pentahotels.

I am pleased that you had a good stay but naturally disappointed that things were not quite perfect for you.

We are aware of the issue with our bathroom floors and have begun a project to remedy this, we are also committed to a complete bedroom renovation programme which will start imminently.

I hope that you will be back with us to see the changes that we are making.

Very best regards
Ben

Great hotel with big clean modern rooms and comfy beds. Great breakfast with every thing you could think of, although we did pay for it no one asked for room number or any questions which makes you think at a £11 extra . Perfect location for city Center. Good TV in room with free wifi and air con that works . Nothing to much trouble for staff. Would return when next in area.

Hotel was funky and modern with a very friendly atmosphere. Had a lovely 3 course meal the food was served to a high standard. Jessica was our waitress on the evening who was very pleasant and had a "nothing was too much trouble" attitude. Would highly recommend and will be returning.

Birmingham is my former home city so I know it well. The hotel is located close enough to the centre, within walking distance for shopping, theatres, restaurants as well as gay bars and clubs.

This is a quirky, funky place that was recently completely renovated. The bedrooms are modern and stylish with excellent FREE entertainment on the TV, a comfortable bed, tea and coffee making and a wet room for the bathroom.

Breakfast was included in our deal and this was buffet style and excellent with plenty of choice from full English to continental, plenty of fresh fruit and breads too.

We were NOT keen on the pool table in reception nor on the first floor where breakfast was served. We felt alienated from the moment we walked through the door.

The lack of a proper reception area was confusing on arrival (you have to check in at the bar).

For these reasons I'm afraid we wouldn't stay there again, which is a real shame as the rest of the hotel seems really good. These are the only reasons I marked the hotel as 'average'.

Room Tip: Take one of the rooms on the 5th, 6th or 7th floors away from the rowdy pool players

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences of your stay with us here at pentahotels.

I am pleased you found the room & breakfast to your liking.

Our reception desk does indeed form part of our pentalounge & bar area which we actually think is really cool. It means that guests can get a beer on check in or an espresso on checkout without having to go to separate areas of the hotel.

I am sorry to see that our concept isn't for you as I am sure that there are many facilities & benefits at the hotel that outweigh the differences in style that you mention.

If you do change your mind, I'd love to discuss these in more detail with you.

Very best regards
Ben

I stayed here in May when I met some friends to see a band. Great looking reception area, friendly staff.
The bedroom I had for just me was so roomy and I had 2 beds! Bathroom immaculate and lots of toiletries too, clean towels etc
Fab breakfast in with the price, you could have eaten until you popped, such a great choice of hot and cold! Great stay, would go there again.

Booked at the last minute and expecting a very average Travelodge standard given the prize but very pleasantly surprised. Excellent location, only five minute walk to centre of town with very comfortable rooms, good bar with unlimited pool and fitness centre. Breakfast was really excellent buffet set-up with huge amounts of choice including pastries, toast, cooked food, smoked salmon, fruit, cereals, pancakes...
Only downside was parking was fully booked but street parking or long stay pay and display is available nearby.

Room Tip: Book early to get high room and parking - ring ahead to request these
