Description: Located on the upper level of the Bullring shopping centre, and open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Café Rouge embodies a certain je ne sais quoi that makes it stand out from the rest. Full of Parisian charm both in the downstairs dining room or upstairs overlooking the busy shopping street. The Bullring is easily reached by bus train or car. Situated between Birmingham New Street and Moor Street rail stations, the centre is also conveniently linked to major road networks. The top floor can be hired out for large parties, celebrations or meetings, book a table now or call us for more information.

My mum decided she wanted to eat here for her birthday lunch and, despite being packed out, the service was very quick so much so that as soon as my starter soup was placed down the mains arrived. The quality of the food is always good but I felt a bit rushed and the tables were very close together. They need to improve the washroom facilities but overall happy.

I have been in Cafe Rouge 3 to 4 times in the last year and now realise that the only thing I can guarantee is how poor the service is in there! Slow is an understatement!!!!

On our way to New Street railway station in the early evening we called in the Bullring Café Rouge. As we had a train to catch we ordered the day's 3 course special, expecting it to be ready to serve. What a mistake. Service at Café Rouge is never speedy but the first course took ages to arrive. it was promised as chicken and duck rillettes. This turned out to be dry flakes of meat, in no way prepared as rillettes. By this time the restaurant which had been full when we arrived started to empty until less than third of the tables were occupied, so this was no excuse. If the first course was slow the wait for the second was interminable, at least half an hour between courses. Even the waitress was embarrassed and apologetic, attempting to hustle the kitchen along, but the kitchen wasn't going to be hustled. The main course when it arrived was supposed to be coq au vin, it proved to be tasteless chicken in an insipid gravy with a side dish of 'petit pois', peas in an unappetising greenish slime. The dessert was a sponge based confection which was much better, but by this time we just wanted to get out of the place. All in all a very disappointing and annoying experience. We have often eaten in several other Cafés Rouge and always had interesting and enjoyable food. This establishment is one to walk past.

We visited on Saturday evening (22nd Feb) and received good service from our waiter. The food was very good with the only criticism being that the fillet steak was slightly too "char grilled", otherwise the steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested. Would visit again.

Dined here with my daughter during half term. The restaurant was very busy but we were served quickly by a nice waiter. Food quite pricey for what it is as the portions weren't huge, but the food was nicely cooked and tasty. The only let down were the toilets - dirty floors, loos and sinks and no loo roll!!
