Booked this well in advance for £25 for a family room (2 adults and a 4 year old). The room we were given (as requested) was quiet - given the location on the Hagley Road and above a busy pub - and the staff were amazing - efficient, friendly and very helpful. In all honesty, if you need to stay in the area you couldn't do much better - even at full rate. The room was well equipped, very spacious, clean and comfortable, what more do you want?
The food at the Toby Carvery - well, it is good value although it may not be to everyone's taste. But over the road there is a good noodles bar and an Indian restaurant.
When you first arrive you wonder if this was the right idea - BUT we were pleasantly surprised and agreed it was one of our best choices in terms of a hotel booking given the budget we set ourselves.

Room Tip: We booked room 312 - it is certainly quiet and very big.

Stayed here as it is conveniently placed for Harborne and Birmingham University, also plenty of parking. Budget accommodation, got a really good deal, 2 nights for price of 1 night. I was a bit concerned regarding earlier negative reviews, but although the bathroom smelt a little damp no other problems, toiletries provided as well. In room 202 on ground floor, little dark in room due to windows being high up but probably due to security/privacy reasons and seeing as we are in rainy old Britain rather than sunnier climes didn't really trouble us unduly. Sunday night was noisier than Monday night but not unbearably so, after all it is a very popular pub/carvery. Clean and very comfortable beds. A big thank you to Joan especially who was very good to our son, who graduated with his Doctorate (Phd) on 9th July, when we bought him back for a cooked breakfast on the following day, as he'd been staying with friends in Harborne. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I also believe that Innkeepers Lodge have the best choice of Continental Breakfast which is included in the price, a cooked breakfast is also available at a very reasonable cost. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed here at the end of June with my wife. Easy to find, just a few miles off the M5 (J3) and not too far from the city centre on the Hagley road. A bit noisy at night but concidering you are on a busy road it is acceptable. Comfortable bed and room is good for the price that you pay.
Complimentery continental breakfast (ok) or pay £3.99 for a cooked breakfast from the hot servery (good).Friendly staff but did have a problem finding the room key and sent us to a un-serced room at first.Problem soon sorted.Did not eat here but the real ales were good and the quiz night was well run (Monday nights)
Overall good value for money

Stayed for one night didnt get a wink of sleep either due to the old heating system or banging from the water pipes that continued all night.
Our stay was a cold one the small electric heater was not powerful enough to heat the room.
On the upside the breakfast was good and the staff were chatty that is if you were awake enough to enjoy it .

Room Tip: wouldnt know apart from this one night

The ivybush inn keepers lodge is clean, reasonably priced and a continental style breakfast included in the tarrif. The staff are friendly, curtious & helpful. The rooms can early accommodate a family of four. The public transport links for the city centre are outside the door. Getting to the inn keepers lodge is so easy as it is a mile from the M5 motorway jtn3, and on to the Hadly road.

Stayed here for 1 night between Christmas and New Year in order to watch the superb pantomime at the Hippodrome. We booked on-line and obtained a promotional rate of £25 per night. Which was fantastic value. Check in was at the bar and conducted by a young lady who was more task driven than friendly; although the process was quick and efficient. The room was on the first floor and my only small criticism was the stair lobby also acted as the exit for the smokers patio and there was a lingering smell of tobacco on the stair. This was not at all noticable in the room though.

The room was reasonable size and immaculately clean. There was a double bed and sofa bed. My niece commented the sofa bed wa a little bit uncomfortable, but the main bed was very good and as I said when I'm paying I get to choose the best bed!! There were plenty of tea and coffee and even lovely caramel biscuits. The shower room was small and practical and very clean with lots of fluffy towels provided.
The room was warm and had secondary double glazing with beautiful stained glass windows. Dispite fronting the main Hagley Road there was little noticable noise.

That evening we ate at the Carvery - the food tasty and plentiful. The drinks were good value too. Despite being busy we were seated quickly and had a wide choce of meat and veg. There were even veggie options.

We then travelled to Birmingham city centre to watch the panto. The hotel is 10/15 minutes from the city centre by car and you can catch a bus from outside the lodge if required. The panto was great and well worth visiting. Not sure if it was me or the youngser who laughed the most.

On returning to the hotel at around 10:00pm we went straight to bed and enjoyed a good night sleep.

The next day we went down to breakfast - The lodge offers a complementary continental breakfast This one was serving between 07:00 and 10:00. On offer was cereal, bread for toasting, crossiants, pain au chocolat, yoghurts and fresh fruits together with preverves, cheese and even Marmite. This is served in the bar area and is self service and all you wish to eat. The lady on breakfast duty was friendly. As we left breakfast to pack our things the manageress and chef wished us all a happy new year which was nice. Check out involved posting the keys in a box by the bar.

Even without the promotional rate and paying the £70+ per night offers superb value, a handy location, free parking and good value food and drinks.
