Description: The perfect place to start your visit to the theatre. Our stylish Circle Restaurant, located just a short walk from your seats off the Middle Circle Foyer, offers a relaxing dining experience with tempting, modern menus and an extensive wine list. Our menus are adapted for each show and take advantage of seasonal produce. Wherever possible, we source from local suppliers; this helps us to achieve our aims of supporting the regional economy and to protect the environment by reducing food miles.

Why does fine dining have to mean small portions. Wehad a night at the theatre for my wifes birthday and saw a good show (fiddler on the roof).
Beforehand we booked intp the circle restaurant which was really nice.
The food was of an excellent standard but why are thay so mean on the portions. I had plaice for my main which was ridiculousy small accompanied by 3 jersey mid size potatoes and some curly kale which would have fitted on a desert spoon. the meal came on a serving plate you could have fitted a turkey on so the food looked completely lost. The starter was smoked ham hock which again tasted lovely but there was a minisclue amount of meat, accompanied by 5 pieces of beetroot the sixe of a pea and a slice of fennel so thin I think the whole restaurant could have been served with one fennel.
Dont change anything Birmingham hippodrome just give a bit more food for what is after all a very expensive meal(roughly £40 a head with wine).

This was the second time we visited Circle Restaurant, as we were pleased with the food & convenience the first time in January 2014. This time we found the menu to be very limited and we struggled to choose something to our liking from the Starters & Mains. Fish dish was delivered cold (luke warm at best) and had to be returned. Lamb dish was more rare than rare to medium and a LARGE piece of fat reduced the amount of eat actually served. We ordered cheese board for the interval as the small portions meant we were still hungry after 3 courses! Even the cheese board wasn't sufficient for 2 to share! Liqueur coffee - very expensive at £6.50. The whole menu cost £96 (including bottle wine & 1 Maibu) for two and is overpriced - under whelming in portions and not exactly brilliantly cooked.
Next time we will snack before show, have an ice cream in the interval and enjoy a take away afterwards!!

2 of us dined at the Hippodrome Restaurant last week.
The bill came to £74 for 2 courses each – WITHOUT any alcohol or fancy drinks!
Although the food was very good quality, the portions were very small, reminiscent of Nouvelle Cuisine. Who remembers that p*ss take?
We are marking the experience as terrible in view of the pricing; the main courses were double those of equivalent menus in the area, which is full of excellent eateries. Service was excellent.
We will not be returning. A pity as the Restaurant will discourage people from going to the Theatre and Ballet.
Very poor (dis-interested?) ‘Management’ as they do not appear to reply to comments on here.

Dear Alan

So sorry to read that you felt the Circle Restaurant didn’t represent value for money, but delighted you scored the quality of food and service very strongly. I’m sure you’ll appreciate the additional costs attributed to preparing this style of menu using fresh, quality produce and a high level of technical ability, this is reflected in the final price of the menu. Aware of the fact that we all have different likes and tastes, we have available a second dining option, our StageSide Restaurant and Bar which serves a brasserie style menu in a more informal setting with main courses averaging under £12.00. You may also be interested to know that as a registered charity, any profits that our restaurants and bars may make are fed straight back into Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre Trust to help us achieve our charitable aims in education, access and creative programming - Hippodrome Plus.

We've eaten here a few times - it makes our theatre trips more relaxed as you dine with no pressure of missing show & return in interval to your table for your pre ordered treats.
My starter (smoked chicken warm salad) was exquisite, main (duck breast with layered potato) very tasty & sweet (orange tart with chocolate) reasonable, all presented & served professionally.
A limited but good value wine list completed the experience - I nearly forgot to mention the show, Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, amazing & riveting, the best ballet I've seen.

we booked a meal as a treat before the theatre show really enjoyed the lovely restaurant, nice calm and very stylish restaurant. Good selection of food and very good service. We arranged for our desserts for the interval which was good. Enjoyed the service and ambiance very much.
