“Why stay anywhere else?”
Reviewed 24 June 2012

Quiet location, excellent staff, great breakfast. This was my 2nd stay at this hotel and it is certainly one of the best Premier inns I have ever visited. It's a real flagship for the group and everything is of a very high standard. The staff without exception are very pleasant and extremely helpful. I don't think I could find a more comfortable night's sleep anywhere else in Birmingham.

Room Tip: We had a corner room which was very sunny & spacious.

Stayed 1 night 09/06/12 in room 219 (family room). Room was clean, staff were helpful. Room was quite large being a corner room and great views overlooking the church. Some low hum of buses on Colmore Row if you open the secondary glazing. Breakfast was good, we were asked if we wanted vegetarian sausage or poached egg as we sat down. We parked in Snow Hill Station carpark (£10.50 for 24 hours parking). Went to the Museum to see the Staffordshire Hoard and then onto the Black Country Living Museum. Would stay again. We paid £24 for the room and £8.25 for breakfast for the 2 of us.

Room Tip: Room 219 is a large corner family room

This hotel is in a brillant location. There are two train stations that u can use New Street and Snow hill both are walking distance from the hotel.
On arrival we asked at check in if we could extend the room Untill 18:00 on the day of departure, we were told that it would be fine just come back on the day of checking out and it would
Cost £25, when we went back on the the day of departure we were told that it would cost £74 because they didn't have a house keeper on that evening. They were not prepared to budge and had an "oh well" attitude.
When we got up to the room they had no toilet paper, in the bathroom, and I found this out to my dismay after I had used the toilet.
The room temperature was freezing cold cause they had the air con on blowing cold air into the room, and although they had the temperature gauge in the room u couldn't alter it cause it was operated fm the main system. The food at the restaurant there was very good

Thank You Malandmal for your review. We are sorry to hear about your stay here at Waterloo Street.
Unfortunately the correct price for late checkout past 2pm is the next days room rate, anything before 2pm is £25.
We are more than happy to help with any of your requests and I hope your stay will not affect your choice to visit us again.

Stayed 2 nights with partner and teenage daughter over the Jubilee. Lovely hotel, central location but in quiet side street with beautiful view. Quiet room, no noise, adequate space for 3 of us and all the usual facilities. Cannot fault anything at all with the stay, but good grief the second day's breakfast was a joke. The first day went as normal, although there was no option to choose just continental breakfast so you have to have the full priced cooked one, which me and my partner did. Plenty of food etc on first day but the second day the hotel was apparently 'less busy' (yet the dining area was full) and so we had to order via a waitress the cooked food we wanted. My partner and daughter had full English, I only have baked beans and scrambled egg (hence my annoyance at paying full price as I normally only have toast and cereal) yet we waited half an hour for our food. In which time my toast had gone cold and hard and I had to do some more to go with my eggs and beans.....which were not only cold but had also been to two other tables before ours. The wait was ridiculous. If the hotel was, as they said, less busy then there was no need at all to have waited so long for our food. The bread rack was empty and I had to ask for the juice and bread to be replenished as they were all empty. It seems the staff in the restaurant during breakfast do not have a clue what's going on. When we first went downstairs to get breakfast there was nobody around to seat us or ask what we were doing and when we saw that there was no hot food buffet we weren't impressed at all. The evening meal we had in the restaurant was relatively expensive and mine was vile. My pasta was solid and undercooked and swimming in oil. My daughter had the burger which was fine and my partner had steak which was also fine. The desserts of ice cream (daughter's choice) was lovely, and our apple pies were ok but not as hot as we'd have liked. Overall I'd still recommend this hotel but not the food. Go next door to Fumo's Italian or somewhere in Mailbox to eat. Breakfast is ok at the hotel if you are on a busy day and actually GET the buffet you are supposed to have but if its quiet and you have to order it then be prepared to wait and have lukewarm food. The reception is also rubbish.....nobody was EVER there apart from at check-out time. And we used the machines to check in as noboby was around. Our daughters bed had been made up on arrival but she had no towels or cup and glass so we called reception and they sent someone up with them about half an hour later. The room was very dusty, which was disappointing as Premier Inns are always spotless. And the room heating was dire. It blew cold for several hours before eventually lukewarm. Another guest had the same problem and was moved to another room. On the whole I would say the hotel, its location and facilities are good, if not great but the lack of buffet and half-soaked staff seem to spoil what would otherwise have been perfect. We would stay again for definite, just not eat here other than the breakfast and only then if it was busy enough for the advertised buffet to actually be on.
