“Superb value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2009

Clean, spacious, well equipped rooms, excellent restaurant. Certainly value for money. Only down side is having to pay £13 for parking overnight.

Stayed in Sept here with my husband and was wondering if the second visit would be just as good and it was. Last visit was at weekend and this time during the week and was wondering how it would be. Reception efficient and because it was full were upgraded to Club Room. The room in the same colours as the ones on the lower floors but with separate shower and better toiletries. Restaurant again just as good, 25% deduction if eating before 7pm and the choice well above the norm for a large hotel. Breakfast was very busy and I congratulate the staff for managing to keep everything going under the strain of so many guests. Plenty of choice for everybody. Would recommend this hotel for a great location for the centre of B'ham, very pleasant staff all round and good food. I just wish there was a lift from the car park to make it easier to arrive.

Dear GF&MEF

Thank you very much for taking the time to add such a detailed positive review following your second stay.

I am delighted to know that you got upgraded to the Club room and despite a very busy hotel, staff did provide you with a very personal service and attention to detail. We always try to ensure that our high standards and services are consistent through the midweek to the weekend and extremely glad to see that it reflects from your review.

Please be assured that your fantastic comments regarding our b1 bar and restaurant will be shared with the team. Our Head Chef and his team will be only pleased to know about your comments regarding food and the selection available.

As far as a lift is concerned from the car park, it was just not possible to provide this after the major refurbishment however our Guest Services team is there round the clock to assist guests with luggage.

One again thank you for coming back and writing such a wonderful review and we look forward to see you back in the near future.

I booked a club room here to celebrate my husbands birthday. We checked in early which was great but it was quite a lengthy process, the hotel was busy this weekend due to an event at the ICC. We were also told at check in that as they were busy this weekend we would not be allowed access to the club lounge on the 11th floor, but we could have 2 lots of complimentary drinks in the downstairs bar (after going to see the club lounge on the 11th which is more like a board room, we were quite happy to have our comlimentary drinks downstairs, much more atmosphere) After arriving in our room on the 10th floor I was quite dissapointed at the size I had expected it to be larger from the description and was convinced we hadn't been given a club room but after seeing a room on the 11th floor (the maid was cleaning and had the door open) the rooms were the same so I was OK about it. The room itself was although quite small, clean and nice. Good selection of toiletries and nice tray, was dissapointed the fridge was locked as I wanted to put my water in there. We paid £95 inc of breakfast, had we booked a few weeks earlier it would have been cheaper but we weren't sure of the date. It was lovely having a drink in the bar people watching, and breakfast was lovely. All in all a lovely stay and I would return.

This was my third stay in Birmingham having previously had the pleasure of staying in the Hyatt and the Marriott. We were attracted to this hotel because we very impressed with the Crown Plaza in Manchester plus we managed to book a room for £50 including brekkie however we were very very disapointed , we knew it was an unpleasant 60's style buliding but assumed it had a major internal makover . they obviously had run out of money . Reception / bar / restaurant had been given a 'malmaison' type makover but the rooms we were allocated on the third floor was like something out of the 60's , white walls , MFI cheap dark wood wardrobes, A/C unit that must have been 30 years old with dirt /dust under it . Maybe we were on the wrong floor ??? . Breakfast was very good and at the price I guess i can't complain but we would not stay here again

After staying the previous night in probably the worst Crowne Plaza in the country (Leeds) this was a breath of fresh air.

The hotel is central enough - though not the easiest to get to - but that's more down to the intricacies of central Brum. The hotel is near to most areas being walking distance from Broad Street and the Bullring, but approach is via a ramp and car park that's not attractive.

Reception efficient and very professional, room itself very smart - almost a toned down Malmaison type room. Bathroom spotless and beautifully done with good toiletries, great big fluffy white towels and bathrobe. Good tea and coffee facilities - nice to see a teapot - icing on the cake would have been fresh milk in the fridge...

Internet access was vis wired connection in room and £5 for 24 hours - reasonable value, and did not restrict access to BBC i-player and the like.

Stayed on a free night stay so cannot comment on price - but certainly worth using you points for!

Breakfast room looked very busy in the morning, but check out quick and easy.

Well done CP - what it lacks slightly in position it easily makes up for in delivery of the service.

My husband and I booked this hotel weeks in advance as our first and only night away from our daughter in over 4 months. We just wanted one night of uninterrupted sleep.

Check-in was easy and the woman gave us a good room. The room was very nice. We set up camp for a relaxing stay, ordering room service and pay-per-view films and then cosied into bed for a long night's sleep.

And then....

The fire alarm went off. Not once, not twice...5 times!!!! It was 8am, but we were so rudely awoken that I ran around grabbing essentials to take out of the burning building.

Then the alarm went off. (but came back on 4 more times).

Needless to say, we were pretty livid at this point. Imagine almost 5 months of never sleeping longer than 3/4 hours at a stretch and the ONE night you plan to get away from it all, THIS is what happens.

Had it not been for that, I would have probably given the hotel 5/5. Had the front desk not been extremely apologetic AND given us a refund I would have given it a 0/5 (if that was even possible). So I compromised and gave it 3/5 because, on the whole, it was a good hotel. I was just not impressed with a fire alarm malfunction, followed by a boiler breakdown which meant no hot water on my ONE night off.

Maybe we'll try again in another 5 months if we can persuade my husband's parents to look after our little one again.
