Central location which was handy for train. Room was clean did not sample the food as I ate out with friends. Please can you update tv's in the rooms and include freeview. Only interacted with two members of staff and they were pleasant enough

This hotel was the worse hotel I have ever stayed in. It is filthy and smells, the smells are then covered up by the constant smell of some air freshener. Our room upon arrival was dirty, stains on the walls and the carpet. The beds looked like they would collapse any minute! When we rang down to complain a cleaner was sent up with a bottle of air freshener of some sort. This would have only added to the already overwhelming smell of air freshener which was used to hide the other obnoxious smells. We changed rooms but had to stay in a room which was on the smoking floor. Neither of us smoke and we hate the smell of cigarettes but this was an improvement! The other 2 people in our group also had to move room. The tea/cups were not clean, they were covered in brown stains. All in all this is not a hotel I would ever stay in again and it should not be rated a 3 star hotel. It is near the train station which is why we booked it but there are far nicer hotels within the vicinity of the station so we will book one of them in the future.

Room Tip: No tip as my experience was awful as was that of the other people I travelled with.

No I'm not exaggerating. I really don't want to be mean but its true.

To start with the good points, the staff are lovely (apart from one mistake which I'll get into in a bit*), the breakfast is nice and the location is central enough. I'm a Londoner who was in Birmingham working so being close to New Street station really helped. The rooms weren't terrible and the state of things were clean.

The truly awful thing which makes me spend this amount of time placing this review is that two of my colleges were given a room that was already occupied and ended up scaring half to death a woman alone and asleep in the dark room.

It was awkward for my male colleagues but it must have been absolutely terrifying for her and I doubt she felt safe after that. No doubt its an easy mistake to make but this sort of thing should not happen

I stayed one night with a group from work. If this had been a personal trip I would have walked back out the door. The room was freezing and the single glazed window was open in my tiny bedroom when I arrived. Stains on the floor, small black hairs in the sink, kettle in the room stained. Smelt of mould, duvet thin, bed uncomfortable, took 55 minutes to get a second pillow! Breakfast was dire and the tea was actually gray! Awful place!

As we would advise any guest(s) there is a manager on duty 24 hours per day and had you made them aware that you were unhappy with the room, they would have been able to assist you in making your stay a more comfortable and enjoyable one

Stayed for one night with colleagues midweek. Pedestrian only access, not sure about disability accessibility. Rooms and corridors very tired, could do with full refurb. Single room small, but bed clean. Breakfast buffet just ok, (but, Britannia- please serve tea individually- not in an urn!) Redeeming feature is the staff, bar and reception staff both helpful, chatty and friendly. Very central location, but be aware it's all very tired.

The hotel was absolutely filthy. As a solo traveller I was placed on a floor that had only smoking rooms - despite there being clear signs in the lobby suggesting that smoking was not permitted in the hotel. The corridors were doused in smoke. The room smelt mouldy. The first room I was given had a dark unidentified liquid splattered all over the wall. The bath had hairs left from the previous customer and the toilet was leaking. The second room I was placed in also had a mouldy smell. The bathroom was in a similar state.

I quickly requested a refund and went to stay elsewhere. I am grateful there was little fuss over my request.

If you are travelling alone you will be placed in a smokers floor. Be warned!

Dear Guest

Please accept my sincere apologies for the problems you experienced at the hotel

Bedrooms are allocated on a first come first served basis, however where requests have been made i.e smoking or non smoking rooms, Reception make every attempt to accommodate them but this can prove difficult at busy time. Having said this, of the few smoking rooms that we do have at the hotel, they are fully aired everyday
