Description: Situated on St Pauls Church square, Andersons Bar and Grill is found in the interesting surroundings of former 18th century cellars. However this restaurant is as far from a dingy basement bar as it is possible to be lush, sophisticated dcor brings light and space to the brick arched room, changing displays of art is displayed on the walls and theres a definite buzz to the atmosphere. With a dedication to providing great value food in a relaxed setting along with top quality service, Andersons Bar and Grill is already making its mark on the local dining scene. The food, sourced locally is of course hearty grill fayre but presented with a touch of class so even old favourites such as Barnsley chop or grilled plaice are actually rather special.

“Amazing Steak”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Took my partner here to celebrate his birthday. We couldn't decide on wine - the staff were very helpful and allowed us to sample 3 different wines in order to make a decision.

We shared some baked rustic breads with roast garlic, then he had slow roast belly pork & I had the tortellini all lovely and very tasty.

Moving onto mains I had the Andersons Surf & Turf, my partner had the Shorthorn fillet which was upgraded to add the Surf for an additional £5, very reasonable in my opinion and an excellent option. Both steaks were amazing and very tender, I am not even a steak fan but thoroughly enjoyed it and will not hesitate to return again!

Unfortunately we were both too full to sample desserts but as the staff knew it was his birthday came over singing with a birthday dessert, compliments of them, a lovely addition to a very enjoyable evening.

Only a couple of grips - firstly we felt our table was slightly under lit and possibly too close to the neighbouring dining couple. We would also have liked to have seen a New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc on the wine list. These are personal observations only.

“Been there, tried it, will not return”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

Decided to give this place a go despite the mixed reviews. We skipped starters and went straight for the 30oz porter house steak and asked for medium. The steak arrived with a big piece of bone attached (which confused me with their 30oz rump on the bone - are they the same then?). Part of the steak was perfectly cooked but the thicker part was literally RARE, we didn't finish it or bothered to send it back but it was disappointing.

Previous reviews mentioned the responds from the manager where he said "its a big piece of steak and it's very difficult to get it right"....... Well then if it's so difficult to get it right then they should either take it off the menu or make the effort to get it right.

I don't think there'll be another visit.

“100% excellence”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

We celebrated my son's 21st birthday here. As we had never visited before, he had searched on trip advisor and chosen this restaurant for his birthday celebration. From the moment we walked in the the moment we left, the whole experience and service was first class. The food was excellent. I will be visiting again, without a doubt. Thank you to all the team.

“Brothers birthday meal. ”
Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

Lovely great big steaks with very healthy portions of sides... The restaurant itself was dark, but this seemed to suit the ambience. Good, attentive service. Would recommend. The only shame was that if you happen to have a smaller appetite, the smaller 6oz steak were pretty much the same price as the larger alternatives.
