“lovely hotel but staff let the place down!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014

Came to the hotel for a course. I didnt stop overnight it was merely a day. But because I hadnt stopped there overnight the staff didnt seem in the slightest bit interested in showing good customer service! It was so much hassle getting me a coffee as id arrived about an hour early, the response of 1 member of staff when the next person asked for a coffee was "bloody hell dont you think ive got enough on on my own in there without looking after you lot", it was constant things like that all day, staff having digs at other staff in front of us, lovely hotel very very clean but the staff severely let the place down! the customer service training needs to be looked in to severely!

Thank you for taking the time to write. I am sorry for to say your comments have left me a little confused as when we spoke on the phone your main complaint was the quality of the course you attended.

A great night actors tried very hard to creat the scene even though a lot of people were talking.
Comfortable hotel, clean and roomy. We were a party of 11 and our rooms were good. The hotel is in need of some tlc but that didn't affect our stay.

For a one night stay this place does exactly what you need it to.

Our room was quite a distance from the reception and a little tricky to find with a lack of 'arrows' pointing the way. The room itself was clean and suited it's purpose, some of the furniture looked a little worn and maybe could do with replacing.

We had a drink in the bar before going out for the evening, after 5 minutes of waiting we had to find someone to serve us.

The hotel was a short walk to Broad Street which was ideal for us.

The breakfast was among one of the best we have had from a hotel, only problem was the service was very slow and the toast was bought out straight away and so left to go cold.

The major annoyance for us was that we booked a room that was advertised as having free WiFi, however, the room we stayed in was so far away from reception that it could not get the WiFi signal and so we couldn't use it, this was stated on an information leaflet in our room but if we book a room that is advertised as having free WiFi then we expect to get a room with WiFi access. There was a connection provided for us in the room but this was not ideal when we had bought our mobiles/tablet along that are WiFi only.

Overall a pleasant hotel but nothing to rave about.

Thank you for your kind comments especially regarding the breakfast. I will pass them on to the team. I am sorry however for the mix up with the wifi. The public areas have wifi access, the bedrooms also have wifi when accessed using one of our portable routers. I am sorry if this was not made clear at check and will ensure we are clearer in future. Thank you again for taking the time to write.

very basic rooms, hotel desperately needs a refurb. pealing paint, tatty furnishings, cobwebs, the lounge area seems to have been redone, but a mis match of furniture, very strange !
there was a cotton bud on our luggage rack, no shampoo or gel, just tiny soap bar and moisturiser
on the plus side, the staff are lovely, fiorinda Schultz is exceptional and breakfast was very good m we paid £60, which was meant to be a special rate as we there for a function, I thought it was very over priced, and we definitely wouldn't stay again, only about 4 residents, so a lot of the rooms closed, 118 has damp over the window, 114 is right on the road , we were in 117 and you could hear the toilet flushing from 118, and people next door

we stayed at the plough and harrow for afternoon cream tea. There was no one at reception so we had to look around for somebody and when we did we was led to a table 'in which the table was to small for our party of four..When they brought out the sandwiches they looked like they was thrown together
.which was very disappointing..We was supposed to be offered a selection of tea coffee hot chocolate instead just brought out a pots of tea in which was luke warm . i have email my comments twice and i have had no response very very disappointed BAD SERVICE ALL ROUND
The waiter who served us tried hard to put things right....

We arrived at the hotel on the afternoon and had a drink first in the bar, staff were very friendly. Although a fair walk up and down stairs and corridors to our room, which was in the newer block, but we were pleasantly surprised, nice clean room and comfy bed. Bonus was that it had a bath and not just a shower. Woodwork needs a bit of an update and there is a vent in the bathroom which unfortunately carries sound from other rooms but apart from that a nice room. The New Year's Eve Gala dinner was lovely, so many courses and really nice food. The music was a bit old and DJ needed to have played something a but more up to date but think he went with the majority for their taste in music. Overall a really nice stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 201 which was at the end of a corridor in the corner and was not disturbed by any...

Eight friends and I stayed at the Plough and Harrow at the end of November 2013 as a base to explore B'ham and the German market... We had 5 double rooms with no complaints from any of our party. My room was very clean with a large bathroom and enormous bath although it would have taken a week to fill given the speed of water coming out of the taps! Breakfast was included in the £55 cost (per room) and definitely no complaints on that front... Staff were very pleasant and friendly (esp on arrival) although we did have a slight disagreement when they tried to charge me nearly £200 for drinks that we're not consumed by our party (there was a wedding on the day of our arrival and it appears their drinks we're put on my room!!). All in all it was a very pleasant stay and definitely value for money. We are even thinking of booking in again in Feb 2014 for another exploration of B'ham.......
