“Nice Room. Poor Bar & Restaurant Experience”
Reviewed 22 January 2013

Stayed for 2 nights in this property. The weather was awful outside so I decided to stay in the bar and restaurant on both nights. The bar team were helpful enough but spent more time away from where they should have been .....behind the bar.

Food on the first night was a Thai Green Curry from the bar menu, tasty enough but clearly a microwave job.

The second night I opted to eat in the restaurant but they were busy setting it for breakfast at 8.45pm so felt it was better just to eat at the bar. Had a steak, was served without a steak knife, mustard etc....... All the things you'd want with a steak.....again, no one behind the bar to ask for the knife & mustard.

The room was nice, the bed as always in Marriott Hotels was fab! I only wish they had the same consistency in theirFood and Beverage offering.

Room Tip: Eat somewhere else!

We stayed on New Year's Eve for one night and found the hotel to be perfectly decent but a bit tired in places.
All the staff we met were pleasant and helpful and the bedroom was large and well furnished if a little 'tired looking' in places. This was most notable in the bathroom where the fittings were not quite on a par with what you would find in a more modern hotel. The air conditioning appeared to be broken as well which wasn't a massive issue as it wasn't too hot but would have been very unpleasant if it was.
The bed was very comfy though as is always the case with Marriott.
Parking is on a first come first served basis and costs £12 although they did say when I enquired that the concierge can park it off site somewhere for the same cost if the car park is full.

I stayed at this hotel for my 4 year anniversary and it is lovely. The interior is luxurious, and the bedroom was nicely decorated and had a lot of room. We stayed in a twin room, not that we wanted to but apparently the rooms are allocated on a first come first serve basis and we got left with the 'last' room. The bathrooms are great, there was a humungous shower and again it was designed beautifully.

The swimming pool is also a added bonus, it is lovely and quiet and there is also a sauna and whirl pool.

The service wasn't great. To check-in took around 15 minutes which is relatively long in comparison to other places we've stayed. It was a slow process which involved the attendant looking at the screen of his PC for a long period of time, I wasn't quite sure what we were waiting for.

It took around 15 minutes to get served at the bar, this is most liely due tot he fact that there was a Christmas party at the time, but it felt as though the bar staff prioritised the party and ignored us for a long period of time even though we moved to a different position at the bar to get served.

Overall, it is a lovely place in a good location to get into town and the canals, but expect to wait a little for service.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a double room if you want one, otherwise you will be allocated a twin.

We stayed at the Marriot for my hen do in October 2012 - my sister planned it via an agent, and it all seemed to go really smoothly. Would never have thought of here for it, thought they may not want us there, but from moment we arrived, they were very friendly (as they always are in birmingham I have found), and they did not mind at all that we were a hen do.
We had a suite which was just delightlful and really spacious, but my friends in normal rooms also looked very nice and roomy. Bathrooms really posh too.
Friday, we had dinner brought up to our suite, and they allowed my friends to decorate it with hen do stuff etc, and brought us drinks up etc. The food options were great, they provide all glasses and cutlery for us in the suite, and they were fine with us bringing our own drinks for cocktails etc. We ended up in the bar later in our PJs while I had to do dares, and the barman seemed disappointed when he realised were going out Saturday instead of staying in the bar!!
Saturday we use the spa in the hotel - pool and facilities lovely and my friends all said there treatments were good - not my thing really so could not say!!
Then we had dinner planned at the hotel, but my sister had arranged a separate room for us all, so we could be a bit noisy if wanted, and we had barn dance lessons first - what a laugh. Again, staff very helpful as they laid table all ready and had to move it all as it was in the way of the dancing!!
Sat night we went out on Broad St - the only slight downside is this hotel is at one end and is a little walk back in the cold - but is do-able.
There were 16 girls for the whole weekend, and they were very helpful and accomodating. We had breakfast in our own side room too, and there was lots of choice of all kinds for brekkie.
All in all, I would recommend for any type of stay - large group of friends or just a couple for a weekend break. We did pay reasonable amount - around £220 each for the whole weekend but that was all food in pretty much, and quite a lot of drinks, plus spa treatment and VIP entry to broad street clubs with drinks etc, and nice touches like a little gift bag and the Friday food was great and loads of it. There were not lots of hen dos - so it struck a nice balance rather than the travellodge that is all hen and stags!!

Room Tip: We loved our suite, so if you can afford the luxury, these ones are definitely worth it!! It is qui...

2nd stay here. Booked thru booking.com and Expedia. Worked out excellent value for money. Especially as it is £14.50 each for breakfast and that was included. The room was nice and had all you needed. The pool and saunas are excellent to. Breakfast was also substantial, tasty and the service was brilliant. We stayed New Year's Eve and walked down into Brum for the celebrations. Be aware it will cost you £12 to park the car. The car par was full but the Concierge was fab at sorting it all out. In fact the last time we stayed using Red Letter Days he was excellent too! A great place to stay if you want easy access to Broad Street and all the fun of the fair!

Great hotel and great spa experience. The Hotel is very central, but very quiet and the rooms are super - ideal for a business stay. Food was good and generally a very nice atmosphere. Staff proud to be part of the Marriott - well trained and loyal.
